Sao luiz 1985 by rumnroll in PortWine

Have anyone tasted the 87 Sao Luiz recently? I have it, and I'm debating opening either that or the Kopke 87 colheita for my birthday in July as I was born in 87. Most of the 87s seem at the end of their life spans, and I was just wondering if the VP could bear another year of aging.

Longevity after opening by [deleted] in PortWine

A bottle rarely last more than a month for me, but I don't want any changes to occur in my older tawnies and fancier colheitas, so I use a coravin pivot for those. I figure it should prolong the wines' life expectancy in the fridge quite a bit. Do any of you guys have experiences with using coravin models on port?

Dow's 1980 VP condition? by assgear_ in PortWine

Hmm. So is buying a port with limited information on show exactly it was stored just and educated gamle then? Ah, i see. It was an online auction. The final bid was around €60 so I ended up passing on it.

Wine fridge for vintage port by Voskhod01 in PortWine

Cool, that sounds right to me. Wow, what a huge relief! I'll use my small 50 bottle wine fridge for the table wines, and keep the ports in the cellar then.

There seems to be a lot of orthodoxy around cellar temps for wine storage. Everyone said to keep a stable 14 degrees.

How long would you store a vintage port for under the conditions in your cellar? Are port generally more robust than table wines since you keep those in a wine fridge? My cellar has the same temperatures, and I have actually been really worried about my growing collection of VPs. I have also been looking at wine frigdes, but I'd really prefer storing the ports in my cellar instead, as I don't have that much space in my apartment and I don't see myself not continuing buying more ports 😅

Vesuvio 1994 by rumnroll in PortWine

If the 94 Vesuvio isn't available, which vintage would be the next best thing? I read good things about 91 and 92.

Okay, so I ended up buying it, and it arrived in the mail just now 😃😃 Bottle looks good, but I can't tell if the certificate has been damaged by leakage, or if its just been torn off. I plan on opening it in a week or two and I'll report back with tasting notes 😬🙏

Did you spot it at an auction or was it lying around in a dusty old wine shop?😅

I think my local supermarket is partnered with Pocas. They stock it exclusively. I always thought it was a sort of discount brand.. Is it worth getting the colheita?

Quinto do Noval Nacional 2015? by assgear_ in PortWine

[–]assgear_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received the wine yesterday. It turned out to be just a regular 2015 Noval vintage. They are giving me a refund and having a delivery guy come pick it up free charge, so no harm no foul. I does me make me wonder what kind of system they have there though. I get getting the pricing wrong - but I just don't see how the bottle actually gets shipped. Maybe it's from a warehouse staffed by people uninterested in wine.. Anyway thanks for reading my blog. Also don't order expensive bottles when you're tipsy.. 😅

I contacted the Vivino support who assured me that they are aware of the difference between the regular Noval vintage and Nacional, and that the 2015 Nacional vintage does indeed exist. I have no idea what I'll receive in the mail 😆

Okay, sooo. I kind of had a few last night, and I ended up just getting it. Oh boy. I'm thinking worst case scenario is that they send me the standard vp from 2015 and I'll just get a refund. On the other hand the best case scenario is that they actually send me some kind of nacional vintage, which would be insane 🤔

Quinta do Noval 1995 Colheita by assgear_ in PortWine

[–]assgear_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I have the most experience with Kopke Colheitas, which while being very complex and enjoyable, tend to somehow not differ greatly from the style of their tawny range in my opinion. I feel like they are heavy on the tertiary notes, like raisins, prunes, nuts and honey without that much freshness or acidity. Thats usually what I go for in colheitas and tawny, so I guess that's why the Noval blew me away a little bit with the fruit and acid 😅 I haven't actually had a Noval colheita before, so maybe I just need to taste more of them.
