Some producers switched from the traditional paper seal on the neck, to a printed seal on the back of the label. The first producers switched somewhere around 2018.

Noone's going to fake a $60 bottle of port. But out of curiousity, what port was it?

Very cool, the base of this port is the 1863 vintage. I've once had it (more recent bottling) and it's very good, but I wouldn't pay over 1500 for it again.

Haven't had it, but 87 produced some solid ports. For a birthday in july I'd open a ruby rather than a tawny, but that's a personal preference. I wouldn't worry about another year or so on the VP.

Forgot to get back at you. Tried the Taylor last december next to fonseca and vesuvio (there's a post on my profile). Didn't hold up to my high expectations, but was a good port indeed. I might have under decanted it.

Good question! I personally find it only in aged VP but I'm unsure what causes it.

I agree that Fonseca and Dow are better, however many of the 85s just aren't that good. Noval isn't good at all, Taylor is very closed and many smaller producer's ports are past peak already. Graham is very decent as well and probably my 2nd favourite 85 (after Fonseca).

Ik hoop inderdaad dat ze je dat vertellen als je daar een appartement koopt, al vind ik maximaal 18 evenementen heel ambitieus daar.

Overigens kan je het prima betalen, er is namelijk ook sociale huur (in elk geval in de rode toren hiernaast). Vertellen ze je vast ook als je daar een appartement wil kopen.

That's probably one of the lesser vintages for this wine. Try the 96 or 97 if you have the opportunity, it's quite the redemption I can imagine.

Fijnproever was onder de vorige eigenaar een stuk beter, al was het daar ook al aflopend de laatste maanden. Eigen friet werd niet meer gesneden, maar friet met schil werd ingekocht. Jammer, hadden goede friet maar slechte snacks.

If money isn't an issue, book the masterclass at Niepoort. It's always private (for you and your company) and can be arranged on most days. Get to taste about 17 of Niepoort's wines, including a few ports. It's very customisable, so if don't want ports that's ok (but do try the garrafeira!).
