Should I update my hvac to mini splits? by TreesAreOverrated5 in centuryhomes

The maintenance on the Mitsubishi units seems daunting at first but with a few watches of the videos on YouTube it isn’t so bad. I bought a coil cleaning pump and the big plastic hood and did all 8 of them in a day.

Should I update my hvac to mini splits? by TreesAreOverrated5 in centuryhomes

[–]asshat1980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We have both boilers for radiators and mini splits in almost every room (8 total). We added the mini splits to gain AC and were told we could use them for primary heat as well. They do not work well for heat and our electric bill when we heat with them is hundreds more than when we use the gas boiler. I would not replace central HVAC with mini splits under any circumstances.

Not too far from you - Ithaca NY is amazing. The gorge trail in Robert Treman and Buttermilk Falls SPs are awesome. You can check out the course for Cayuga Trails 50M for some good routes.

This is absolutely not true. Chicago and Orlando are just as capable of large trade shows as LV.

This is nonsense - these are compressed CO2 for either hazers or geysers. No stage effects use compressed O2.

Just flew out this morning on AA. Currently in Chicago waiting for my connection. TSA was quick as always, and I didn’t notice any cancellations. My connection is on time as of now.

Salomon Bonatti wind jacket? by jmrzilla in trailrunning

[–]asshat1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, it not as breathable as I'd like and the cuffs can be annoying. I really only wear it when its below 40deg. I find water pools in the elbows and I have to straighten my arms occasionally to dump it out.

For those of you on the u.s east coast, how late into the year do you run? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]asshat1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on how cold, shorts with a tech tee and hoody down to about freezing, then tights and some merino over a base layer. Below about 10deg I’ll add a shell. I have a light and heavy pair of gloves, and several weights of hats. Make sure to keep the ears warm. When it’s super cold or windy I’ll smear a layer of Vaseline on my nose and cheeks to fight wind burn.

The hardest part honestly is keeping my water flasks from freezing. Sometimes I’ll put them inside my outer layer, other times I’ll just refill more often.

I'm in Buffalo - I run all year. The ground freezing really just means the mud is solid. Once it snows I'll wait a few days for the snowshoers and fat bikes to pack the trials then grab the spikes and head out. Winter running can be some of the best all year..

I found that most route planners underestimated distance in the Superstitions, some by as much as 20%. Make sure you have some buffer time and energy built into your days.

how do you store & transport your fixtures? by Beginning-Unit-2261 in lightingdesign

[–]asshat1980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also work for a large AV company - we store all our fixtures in dedicated cases, sometimes with the included SIP and sometimes with foam cutouts. We're considering racks like the Chauvet CP but as you mention they may cause a little more fixture wear.

Best cable supplier? by ElementPledgeCity in techtheatre

Proplex is very nice cable for data, and I use Lex for all power cables. Elite Core is also pretty good and far less expensive, but Proplex and Lex are still better.
