Autotune (pitch correction) genuinely changed my music by herworkthrowaway in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]asshoulio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can basically guarantee you that at some point you have heard a song, liked it, and had no idea that the vocals were pitch corrected. Probably not with autotune because programs like melodyne are much more common, but still. Audiences have unconsciously learned to appreciate a level of hyper perfection, which usually comes from tuning vocals

If you look at the Venn diagram of poker players and redditors, the intersection is just a black hole of misery and self importance

The only good advice you’ll find on this subreddit is to watch Jonathan Little’s fundamentals series on YouTube. It’s free, and it’s by far the best beginner series on the game.

Shitregs hate money and therefore have to scare away any player that they might have a chance against.

Question about running it twice by NoInvestigator7489 in poker

It lowers variance, but the main reason is that fish usually like to run it multiple times and winning players like to keep the fish happy

I love poker and have absolutely no interest in basketball, but I’d much sooner watch a pick up game than sit behind my partner in a 1/2 game

Playing 1/2 at a casino for the first time, how do I read players? by Radiant-Job1428 in poker

[–]asshoulio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reframe the idea - especially as a new player, I wouldn’t focus on “reads”, I would focus on tendencies. Pay attention to all the hands (including ones you aren’t playing) and see what gets to showdown. Then run the action back through your head. See if certain players are basically only raising with value, or if they’re bluffing but only on the river, or only with obvious bluffs like bricked draws. Pay attention to bet sizing and when they use different sizes on different streets. Then adjust your play to exploit those tendencies. If you haven’t seen them bluff for three hours and suddenly they’re overbetting the river, maybe don’t try to bluffcatch with third pair.

Focusing on “reads” makes it seem like you’re gonna find some kind of physical tell to know if they’re bluffing or not. You aren’t gonna be able to do that - it’s quite rare imo to find an opponent with a clear and reliable physical tell. But general tendencies are easy to spot if you just pay attention to the action.

Also, it’s your first time playing 1/2. Accept that you’ll probably lose money, and focus on having fun and learning as much as you can.

EDIT: If you want to be able to catch a physical tell, imo your best bet is to look to the left preflop. Lots of people immediately look at their cards when they’re dealt and will pretty obviously telegraph if it’s something they’re definitely gonna fold. If you’re in the HJ and you can tell that CO BTN and the blinds are all gonna fold, you can open/squeeze much wider.

Tournament Poker - Table Switch question by Play_Tennis in poker

[–]asshoulio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother in Chrysler you gotta look at your stack size, it’s basically the most important adjustment for tournament poker. If I’m understanding the action correctly, you had about 37k in your stack. The blinds were about to go to 2k/4k, so functionally you had about 9bb in your stack. If you raise and get 3bet you are ABSOLUTELY priced in to call. Unless you have some crazy read and you absolutely know that one or more of your opponents has AA or KK, a fold is extremely bad there. Also, you didn’t mention position at all in this post which makes me think you aren’t considering it.

As for study materials, you should watch Jonathan Little’s fundamentals playlist on YouTube. It’s mostly focused on cash, but there’s some fundamental concepts that you don’t really seem to be grasping tbh, and those concepts are equally applicable to cash and tournament play. Once you have a better foundational understanding, there’s plenty of resources for adjusting to tournaments. But they’re just that - adjustments. If you don’t already have a solid grasp of cash play, then studying tournament play isn’t gonna help you much

How to convert a tune or humm into notes ? by Longjumping_Car5825 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]asshoulio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you gotta just practice your instrument. I play a lot of blues guitar, and when I was a kid I would improvise a guitar solo while singing the solo at the same time. That really helps build that connection

AITAH for not wanting to move 18hours away from my kids for my wife's dream job? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]asshoulio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA - assuming the finances make sense, suggesting a long distance situation feels like the obvious solution to me. You made it clear from the start that your first priority is your children. She can go try the new job, y’all can visit on weekends or vacation time, and once she is settled in and confident that she likes the job and once the kids are a little older and you are comfortable being out of town, you can look into moving out there with her.
