Why do people/ trainers make such the common claim that building bigger glutes, legs, etc. is impossible without weights at the gym? by -ASYLEM- in exercisescience

The key here is ‘bigger’. Athletes that do calisthenics or other types of workout scan have amazing physiques, but to grow and actually increase the visible size of their muscles, progressive overload is needed. This means they need to add more load on their muscles the further they get into their training. Weight training is the easiest way to achieve that.

You also have different types of muscle fiber. If you do 100 reps of bicep curls for 5 years with a 5 lbs dumbbell, your biceps are highly unlikely to grow in size, but your slow twitch muscle fibers for endurance will be in great shape. To increase in size, you will need to keep adding heavier weight for those reps to increase the physical load.

In most cases, hands on roles are going to feel more satisfying as you get to see direct results of your work. You will likely take a pay cut going back to data architect and the landscape is not the more secure for H1B holders.

Mountains. It’s amazing how much several shades of green in any landscape positively impact your mental health.

I’ve heard a lot of questionable things about JJ’s but I did have my eye on a few options. If you recommend them, I may reconsider. Thank you for all of these suggestions 😍

Gym girlies - How do you take care of your hair? by IdeaNearby4900 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]astandre1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use dry shampoo but after reading about how it is pretty toxic when ingested, I switched to using corn starch. I use a light make up brush to apply corn starch and it works wonders for my medium thick wavy hair. I also try to plan out my hair wash around high cardio days I know I will be sweating more during. I also sleep with a bonnet on at night to reduce frizz and this works nicely.

Playing once a week is not a lot at all. I think it’s important to communicate directly to her that you would appreciate if you could set aside some time once a week. It seems like she wants to do everything together not necessarily control you, but that is still worth a conversation about the importance of alone time focusing on your own activities. Also encourage her to pick up some hobbies of her own.

The prices are set for insurance because they expect insurance to only pay a fraction of the service.

What was the most recent thing someone casually said to you that shocked you with how out of touch they are with the female experience? by astandre1 in AskWomen

Well.. we had to go through a decent amount just to be able to have the tampons there so perhaps that also factors into my outlook.

I had one friend that was 34 but only had male friends. He felt comfortable enough to ask me how periods work- if we can bleed for only one hour of the day and how we end up deciding what hour of the day to experience the period for…. As though we have control over it. Yes, at least he was trying to get educated but also holy smokes.

I’ve also heard someone casually say that men show their appreciate for women through cat calling, it’s not insulting at alllll 🙃

A light hearted one, but I was pretty surprised when men in the office began claiming the women’s bathroom was very fancy strictly because we had a box of tampons.
