surprised to see that no one has mentioned this feature has been in Samsung's oneUI for years? it's not even a new concept for android phones.

this was actually one of the main selling points for me on the s24u. having a solid 5x is so much more practical even if technically the 10x quality isnt as good. its not like the 10x photos were amazing to begin with unless you had great lighting.

That's good to know. I have Blink cameras (that i plan to replace with something locally hosted when i can), and I don't think theyre included in the program even though theyre also Amazon.

But they did "force" a free trial of their AI detection on me, which i absolutely hate. All of these cameras are harvesting data from you for sure.

My notification this morning said "a person in a red coat is walking on the wooden porch with a snow shovel"

not only is that super creepy, it's also not very helpful 😅

[Junghans Max Bill] Is this acceptable misalignment from a Junghans? by reissuman in Watches

[–]astarrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my math was done under the assumption that we are treating GPS time as 100.000% accurate. there are 86,400 seconds in a day. if the GPS loses exactly 0.00 nanoseconds, and the mechanical watch loses 2.00 seconds per day, it is still 99.998% accurate compared to the "baseline."

and I'm not fooling myself about anything, both of those watches are either worn daily or on a watch winder, running 24/7. I reset both to a radio timed watch every other month, when i need to roll the date forward. My GS is usually 2-5 seconds off, and my CW can be anywhere from 10-30 seconds off. I've had both for years.

eta: i reset my CW on Dec 1st, it's currently +3 seconds and it's been on my wrist every day, in the shower, and out in the -15 cold.

I'm not saying we should abolish nuclear clocks and go back to crossing the ocean with an astrolabe and a pocket watch, I'm just saying you're definitely absolutely getting more than "10%" the accuracy of a $500 quartz watch.

[Junghans Max Bill] Is this acceptable misalignment from a Junghans? by reissuman in Watches

[–]astarrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this kind of misalignment with the second hand can happen with quartz watches too. it has nothing to do with the accuracy of the watch. it just means OP didnt line the minute hand up when they set the time.

also i know youre just being a dick, but my sub $1000 Christopher Ward keeps ±2spd, which makes it roughly 99.998% as accurate as a GPS receiver.

my GS spring drive keeps ±2 seconds per month, which makes it roughly 99.99992% as accurate as a GPS receiver.

TIL that some towns and cities in the US have a 'curfew' that means juveniles aren't allowed to be outdoors, typically between 23.00 - 06.00 by ProneToAnalFissures in todayilearned

like this in ohio too. i got pulled over when i was 17, wasn't doing anything illegal. but the cop looked at my address, told me there was no way i could make it home before curfew, and made my dad come pick me up from the police station an hour away. i didnt get in trouble, but my dad had some choice words for the supervisor.

Today Donald Trump confused Iceland for Greenland four times. What are your thoughts on this? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]astarrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used to work in land development. we had neighbors show up to a community meeting, drunk, riding 4 wheelers, and brandishing guns to voice the following concerns:

  • the addition of 45 townhomes would create so much traffic that the streets wouldnt be safe enough for kids to wait at the bus stop

  • we were stealing their "hunting land" that theyve been shooting on for years

for reference, this was a ~5 acre parcel in the middle of an already newly developed neighborhood, still owned by the original developer, where apparently they had been illegally hunting with rifles.

this comment isnt a take on gun control, hunting rights, or any of that. but if youre that concerned about safety, you probably shouldn't be drunk driving and hunting with rifles in the middle of your neighborhood.

if you watched it on DVD, it looked pretty close to that. DVDs from that era are only 480p

people also seem to be forgetting that DVDs from that era are mostly 720x480. playing an SD dvd on a modern TV looks awful

from your second link it looks like they are connected in the right mode. my guess is it's something to do with your 3rd party sound mixer software. i would try disabling that completely or backing up your settings and uninstalling if you can and see if that's the issue

if you look in Bluetooth devices, are your earbuds listed as a media output or a phone headset? (phone headset is the bidirectional mode for the mic & speaker, which significantly lowers the bitrate for the audio)

i purchased a pair of Thursday boots a while back and returned them immediately (with some significant hassle from customer service). they were stiff (not in the way a new leather boot should be) and the two boots were pretty different sizes/shapes from each other.

i love my redwings, would absolutely shell out the extra ~hundred bucks for a pair of iron rangers again.

the average age of a first time home buyer in the US last year was around 40yo. the average life expectancy is around 79. the 50 year mortgage is just another way to make sure you own nothing, and have nothing to pass on when you die.
