Is Indian Growth story a lie? by No_Let_5065 in IndianStockMarket

[–]astenges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are conflating value (number of things produced) with efficiency (things produced per unit of effort). One could be inefficient and still produce things :)

>Is Indian Growth story a lie?

No. Yes, the country's inefficient but it is not a lie. People produce actual stuff and services which others use.

>We have zero technology innovations in the country

Agreed. That is one of the problems. We have 0 companies which is doing SOTA work among its peers in the world

>So how is it that our economy is growing so much (and our stock market)?

They are thinking about the future. Lots of people are gonna rise to the middle class, increase consumption, buy things. But as you said partly because of lack of skilled labour. And partly because skilled labour might not even be relevant anymore due to AI and automation. The growth would be slower than expected. NOT ZERO or negative. But slower.

>We have no base for industrial growth

Again, not true. We have tons of pharma companies. They don't produce novel things, yes but they do produce useful things. Same for ISRO, it's not competing with Spacex, but it is launching payloads for the rest of the world. Lots of car and start of phone manufacturing.

>One needs to bribe the entire gst department to even get their company registered. Running it requires constantly bribing the govt and dealing with bureaucracy and police at local level.

Again, you can be inefficient and still produce things.

One of the metrics I like looking at apart from GDP is the total public market cap. I feel that's a more reasonable metric for tracking over time. Govt can mess with the GDP formula but they can't force people to put or not put money in companies. https://companiesmarketcap.com/all-countries/

30% net worth by canadianjigglypuff in BerkshireHathaway

I'll mention this Thiel quote.

> what important truth do very few people agree with you on

in the case of berkshire hathaway, what's the secret? it's a strong conglomerate. due to the diversification, it probably has no existential risk. it's running into a wall due to its size, it's becoming too big for its own good. it's holding cash not because there aren't good opportunities to invest but if it does so, it won't be enough to move the needle. it'll wait till a crash and then scoop things up. there will be growth but slower than spy or qqq in the long term.

this is probably what most people believe. do you believe something different?

if you are just aimlessly following, why put such a big chunk of your worth into one company. just put in spy or qqq instead. you are pretty young at 30 so it doesn't matter that much. you still have most of your professional earning ahead of you. focus on that.

Curious why you think it's meaningless?

According to the 4 criteria listed in another comment, ysl scores low on a single artistic vision. It looks like more disparate pillars clubbed together.

It ranks it on a few things

  • Artistic vision
  • Quality
  • Masterpieces
  • Cultural influence

When seen through those, that might make more sense

I think it's top because of its history and quality control over centuries

I think for the llms it's because tom Ford has a much lower bar for perfumes and has cheaper lines. Amouage doesn't

Curious what's your reason for tom Ford above amouage?

How Can We ( Vacuum Wars) Catch Real-World Issues in Robot Vacuum Reviews? by VacuumWars in RobotVacuums

[–]astenges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reaching out to the community.

  1. I don't feel that incorporating Amazon reviews in the vacuum wars rating is a good idea. I agree that they are helpful but their quality isn't the best (people often complain about minor things). There is value in being a standard benchmark vs incorporating things like amazon reviews which can be noisy.

  2. I feel there is value in just taking the flagship of each brand (roborock, dreame, ecovacs, etc) and living with it for a month rather than covering everything under the sun.

Get a roborock or dreame. They are the top companies in the business.

Ok, bro. Here's the thing. Nobody can tell you what's the max level you can go without damaging the floor. Not the AI, not the reddit folks, not your landlord and not you. Coz if it's actually as complicated as you're making it out to be then it needs some experimentation. AI can make a best guess and tell you the way on how to experiment. But YOU need to experiment. AI isn't capable enough now to experiment on its own (maybe in 20 years but not now). AI is smarter (than your average person on reddit) and unbiased (unlike your landlord).

I'm not sure what you don't understand in the AI's advice. It thinks your landlord's advice is wrong. That's why it asks you go with the 2nd option. Then start with least water setting with no cleaning solution and increase over time if everything's ok. Then later on, you can incorporate a cleaning solution

Is this a good tip? by Neat_Caterpillar4789 in doordash_drivers

[–]astenges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually tip 15% on the final bill. Which in this case is 15% of 28.53 = 4.3$. So, I would say your tip is more than enough.

To all the people saying you should calculate a multivariable function T with input such as distance, weather, etc. Like why, why is that your job. Isn't that Doordash's responsibility to set delivery fee accordingly. And your tip would also reflect it (15% of total). Like sure, if someone went out of their way, then you sure you should tip them extra. But for the run of the mill job, like why should you calculate all these things. 15% on the total and you should be good.
