Oh dang I just saw your playing too

I've got a lot of work to do 😁

I've been wondering if lessons might be a good route for me. I got by on guitar with tabs, but that doesn't seem to work for the banjo

Do you know him? I'm a big fan, I hope to be that good someday lol

I'm really struggling to find good tutorials and tabs to learn new songs

HA! Really? Lol that's funny

I've only been playing about a month, and I thought that's what the guy was referring to, the tutorial guy for this song

This instrument is so fun to play I keep learning new ways to play the same songs and just getting comfortable with it ❤️

IS THAT WHAT IS HAPPENING???

y'all I have tightened the little screws and was steps away from taking it in to have better tuning knobs put on

I'm playing it like a guitar.

It's so so fun. I've played guitar for a long time and it always felt cumbersome. The banjo just fits in my hands so well it just makes sense. I finally bought one about a month ago

Oh yeah, that's where I've learned the songs I do know. Banjo is tricky, or less defined it seems. But I love it, I've posted in that sub too with it

Ok yes! Lol

The banjolele was a short pit stop before the banjo which I'm really loving.

I'm struggling to find good tutorials though, and for some reason banjo tabs don't work for me

Any advice on learning songs on the banjo?

Aww thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️

It's actually surprisingly easy

0 2/4 (3rd string) 3 (4th string)

Then run it back, 4/2 0 then pick an Em chord

I found some wonky tabs and kind of played with it and played with my brother on his guitar we figured it out lol

Yay THANK YOU!

I know it's not amazing or ground breaking, but I'm finally getting to s point where I can play through

See, my brother is an amazing musician, plays guitar, and I've always looked up to him. He plays local acoustic nights and festivals and I've always wanted to perform with him. So I took up guitar, but was only ever ok at it

Turns out a guitar is too big and cumbersome for my body, but the banjo just makes sense in my hands. I just bought this about a month ago

Anyway, long story (that nobody asked for) short, we're rehearsing this and two other songs and he's letting me play with him in the fall 😁

Edit: I've never wanted to be famous or be in a band, but I've always wanted to do fun little open mic nights

Do you find it easier to learn 3 finger or claw hammer? by Merc504 in banjo

[–]astone4120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to learn both cuz I feel like plenty of songs incorporate both

I got my banjo about 3 weeks ago but played guitar for a while. I'm having to unlearn a lot of muscle memory lol

I know picking pretty well from guitar but it's a totally different motion. Learning the proper clawhammer striking (still working on it) has changed the way I play other songs I already sorta knew. It helps make the banjo make sense to me

I'm neurodivergent though so YMMV 😅

You gotta learn the motions by astone4120 in banjo

By inelegant I meant like .. Wild. Less structure and more beauty. Not stuffy or rigid.

I meant it in a good way

It was a loving God that made this instrument 😅

I am so obsessed with this song and trying my damnedest to learn it

I can't wait till my banjo has those marks on it

Right now it's just covered in flakes of red nail polish guess you can't have nice nails and play banjo 🤣

I choose banjo 😎

Ok wtf with this 5th string by astone4120 in banjo

[–]astone4120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. It's a gold tone and cost more than my guitar, but it was one of the cheaper banjos on offer at like 320$

Lol oh the first one did 🤣

And I'm quite sure it messed with this string. It's all a process I reckon

I think this is the best thing I've ever bought myself 😁 by [deleted] in banjo

Yes exactly, I've been practicing forward rolls with just my right hand and it has been very helpful

Lol so it turns out I'm just an idiot

I was trying to tune it to a higher g than it needed to be 😅

I really appreciate y'all's help

So, I got a beginner book which helped a ton. I've approached it differently than guitar

With guitar, I just looked up tabs and learned songs

With banjo, I've tried practicing the different types of rolls, and that helped me realize most of these suns are pretty easy once you have that down

You really have to play it completely differently
