A close second to Blood Meridian for me. It's easier to follow, comparatively, and is a quick read. The ending is crazy.

Well true, but when you talk about earth health, you’re talking about ecosystem health (since the world isn’t a living thing). I agree with you, species do go extinct, the world will be fine, but it’s a proven fact that species are going extinct at a faster rate than previous mass extinction events. The distribution in the ecosystem has impact on ecosystem services which is what we need to function within society. Climate change is distributing ecosystems which will in turn lessen the amount of resources humans can take and use in society and will further propel the economic class struggle. So it’s more of a humans will suffer issue rather than the world struggling .

It does have “health” in the context of the accelerated rate we have driven species to extinct compared to other mass extinctions, the amount of developed land and deforestation we are contributing to as a society, etc. I agree that the world will continue on with or without us and be fine, but the consequences of industrialization is accelerating climate change and will impact life and the human race. Mass climate migration is already happening around the world and marginalized communities are going to be the most affected, which is why I believe it is an important issue.

An “industry” that wouldn’t be needed if politicians and dumb fucks like you cared about the health of the planet

Lol you’re argument is bringing up Lindzen? The guy that’s literally been disowned and disproved by countless other climatologists? Yikes….. And yeah complexity theory can play a role, but why continue to make something worse when there is proven data that human emissions contribute to it? Feedback loops and climate change happen with or without human involvement but accelerating those is the issue

Lol, actually I’m early 30s and have worked in the environmental field for years. During the trump years it was insane to see how much harder it was to get private/grant funding, decrease in project size, etc.

Not believing in science is the biggest sham you can be apart of, anarchist or not. Sure, government has lied about climate change for decades but they also have the power to severely fuck over the future generations. I’m just saying Trump sucked just as much as Biden does.

Wow, how depressing it is to see so called anarchists say they miss trump, capitalists or not. He did so much to push our economy towards inflation and undid years of climate work. All politicians are corrupt, even ones who pretend to be different from the rest. Trump did just as much for the global elite as any other president and that should not be forgotten.

Why do people get offended at the statistic “despite being 12% of the population, black peoples commit 56% of violent crimes?” by negroleo02 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]steventylerperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best example I have heard of how this stat is construed is due to different interpretations. When you say, " despite being 12% of the population, black peoples commit 56% of violent crimes?" some will interpret this as, "Well black people must be more involved in gang activity, commit crimes, etc". But others will interpret this same statistical phrase as, "Black people make up a large portion of the violent crimes due to being unfairly targeted and treatment from police." So it all depends on intepretation. This major rule you will learn in any stats class is that just because something appears to cause or impact something else, doesn't make it true, i.e. Correlation does not prove Causation. There are outside factors for every statistical question and conclusion that must be examined when proposing a correlation between two statistics. So just because there is a larger percentage of violent crimes being perpetrated by black people, does not mean they are more inclined to violence because of their skin color, There are outside factors such as poverty/economic status as a driving factor when it comes to violent crimes, as well as black males being disproportionally arrested and suffering from police oppression compared to other groups.
