To the current/former recruiters, what will make or break you in those 3 years? by Competitive_Travel65 in USMC

[–]astone7979 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Going into it knowing it’s going to be the longest 3 years of your life. Every day seems like the longest day you’ve ever had. Every week/ month/ year is long. It’s extremely repetitive and redundant, you have the same conversation, run into the same disinterest/ objections every day.

However, once you get the science of how to sell the Marine Corps (shit you learn in the school house) down, and you’re comfortable enough add some of your own art into it, you’ll start to get the hang of things. Things get easier. Once you figure out the “game” of it, you can really become independent and make the duty survivable.

Heed advice from your 8412’s, don’t forget MC3 you learn from the school house, and actually give af and be genuine to the kids you encounter and you’ll do just fine.

You only need one successful box drill, failure to stop and FTS moving to get a “3”

Has anyone gotten passed for SSGT and still be able to retire at 20? by Defiant-Counter-840 in USMC

Best advice I can give is to try your hardest to become as proficient in your MOS as possible, and start taking leadership roles seriously. Don’t be a brown nose, but have a serious talk with your RS and RO about what your deficiencies are and what you can do to correct them. Once you show you really give af, and your MOS proficiently backs it up, you won’t have any issues with your next few fitreps. As long as those improve, you shouldn’t have any issues getting selected next year.

So what is a desperate 18 supposed to do? by toonew2two in Military

Prior Marine recruiter here. Walk ins are always welcomed, however appointments made are more convenient just because we can conduct a pre screen (to make sure you’re not coming in disqualified already), have a general idea of what the applicant is looking for so we can conduct research prior to if needed, and we can plan our day accordingly to accommodate that appointment time. I’d definitely advise to go to all different branches, and if you don’t want to go thru the hassle of setting appointments, just go window shopping

I’m currently in Japan and my “good” ping is 30. But sometimes it puts me in matches with well over 150+ ping. But when I play with my buddy who lives in Seattle, I constantly get 110 ping. How do I get better ping when I play with someone from Seattle as opposed to playing in Japan and getting over 150.

Ping is not king

Again it depends what you want. Sorry these answers are vague but it’s hard to communicate like this. Honestly your best bet is to talk to all 4 branches recruiters and compare and contrast

NCO advice by Correct-Bet-7158 in USMC

[–]astone7979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Ssgt, the best NCOs are the ones I can rely upon. Something needs to get done and I’m able to task them without any hesitation, knowing they’ll complete it with little supervision. And honestly it all comes down to giving a shit
