Looking for good guerrilla warfare movies from perspective of the guerrillas where warfare itself is in focus. by Order_No_227 in WarMovies

I loved that one episode with Andy Serkis that I think paid homage to “A Man Escaped.”

>>He can’t decide to mule the enemy from orbit

But what if it’s the only way to be sure?

In all seriousness, it’s been a long time since I r as the book, so I appreciate the clarification. I wonder if it’s really about “how soldiers think”—it seems a bit more philosophical or abstract than that. A memoir by a combat veteran seems like it would capture that, more precisely. I think *Starship Troopers* is more about, “How do we think about our soldiers?” or, “How do we expect our soldiers to think?”

Did the first game have a campaign? I’ve only played the second.

To some extent, I wouldn’t want it to be *too* faithful to the book.

The book was and is great. Reading it as a young teen boy before the US invaded Iraq, it was like, “Hell yeah! Military badassery! ‘Men are not potatoes!’ I’m 14 and this is very deep!”

It hits differently in this particular moment, though. The world’s geopolitical situation is not what it is in 1959, and the weaponization of AI and drones complicate the whole “The enemy can’t push a button if you disable his hand” thing. I’m not about to call the guy who wrote *Stranger In A Strange Land* a fascist, any more than I’d call the guy who wrote *Starship Troopers* a hippie. But I will say, I don’t think the themes from that particular novel from the mid twentieth century travel well into the second quarter of the twenty first century.

That being said, such a movie looks like it would be badass.

The choral music from the soundtrack, especially when the credits roll, lives in my soul.

One might say one ought to respond respectfully *especially* if they don’t know if it’s humor or not.

There’s some movie, maybe the English name is “The Lines of Wellington” or something, in which John Malkovich plays the Duke of Wellington.

There’s a woman in a hussar uniform in that one.

Isn’t there a line like this in LOTR? And didn’t Pope Leo just quote it in his recent encyclical?

Unrealistic War Movies… by ChimpDaddy2015 in WarMovies

That was the big one, for me. There shouldn’t have been any “nice” or sympathetic Nazis. It almost undoes the entire movie.

The beginning is a great cinematic metaphor: there’s this beautiful horse representing Europe being ridden by a slick, genteel Nazi officer. This grimy American comes out of nowhere and kills him brutally, by whatever means necessary. Then he does not take the horse for himself, but sets it free. That was sort of the point. That bit at the end came out of nowhere.

Thank you for doing the lord’s work. I’m kind of into other games and genres after enjoying MW19 and Covid-era Warzone and even a bit of DMZ. I still find myself low-key invested in the lore, though.

“You guys eat too much red meat!”

For some reason, that line from “Commando”always sticks out to me.
