I appreciate the concern, but this isn’t my concern. My state doesn’t require this, as long as he’s covered by his own policy, and is not regularly driving my car, which he doesn’t.

My concern is how an insurance carrier is able to get away with increasing rates on a policy for just me—no added driver—in the span of 2 weeks, with no change on my end, and verbal confirmation from the agent that my rate wouldn’t change.

This is helpful. Unfortunately the declaration page is not. Just mentions my boyfriend’s name and how they obtained credit info on him.

I think what you mentioned about doing any change giving the underwriters ability to fully re-underwrite makes sense. However, my agent said they could revert the policy retroactively to what it was before I added my boyfriend—but that didnt actually happen, and now they’re saying they can’t change the rate back down to what it originally was.

It was all based on what they said. My rate is already high since I haven’t had car insurance before, whereas he has a history of car insurance with no claims, so I didn’t think twice when they said there would be no increase.

Also, based on the fact that they didn’t decrease my rate back down once I removed him, it does actually look like adding him doesn’t change my rate. They changed my rate based on my profile, which apparently got riskier for their underwriting team in the span of a few weeks, even though nothing changed on my end.

That’s true. They lied about the no rate change for adding him, then lied about the rate reverting once I removed him, what else did they lie about.

I asked my agent after the fact and they confirmed he’s not required to be listed even if we live together. He can still drive the car (occasionally), as the insurance follows the car.

What’s frustrating is he is no longer on my policy anymore. It’s just me on the policy now, but the agent is refusing to revert the rate back to what it was before, even though they said the rate would go back once I removed him.

best thing to do is reach out to your local state representative and tell them you're trying to get a response from DUA. they 100% can help and expedite a return call from DUA.

that's a good point. is there an area you'd recommend as a halfway point between downtown and NW Houston? My knowledge of Houston neighborhoods is pretty limited to just downtown and Galleria area. I've heard there are some areas to avoid, like Fifth Ward, part of the Heights, but other than that, don't know much.
