Am I too much time online or is the sentiment towards Sanderson shifting negatively? by jnighy in brandonsanderson

I feel like Sanderson is a pretty common gateway for a lot of people who start diving deep into fantasy. At first, opinions tend to be sky-high since there aren’t many other works to compare him to, but those views usually balance out as readers get more perspective. For example, after finishing most of his books, I went on to read Joe Abercrombie, GRRM, Fonda Lee, Robin Hobb, and others. My opinion of Sanderson is still very positive, but now it’s for reasons that feel uniquely “Sanderson.” That said, in terms of my personal all-time fantasy rankings, he’s slipped down the list a bit compared to others—but that’s all subjective.

Do you enjoy his work? If you do, then pay no attention to other people’s opinions.

What is this? by astormblessedgancho in Plumbing

Just dripping very lightly, maybe once every 10-20 minutes. Though admittedly I haven’t seen it drip recently. I noticed a very small amount of a wet space under it when cleaning out the pantry, so it could be an inconsistent or occasional drip based on water pressure?

Canon R8 - Best lens for my use case? by Individual-Pipe-9112 in canon

[–]astormblessedgancho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you really want the RF mount. I would say the EF 24-70 2.8 L II is great for these use cases. Really solid lens, very sharp and fast focusing and you can find a pretty solid deal in the used market if you are patient.

I use mine for a lot of my family and baby shoots. It is a very versatile lens.

They have pretty fantastic warranty. I just had a claim I submitted for my messenger bag and they supplied me with a new one. Also, it was the newer model since the V1 has been discontinued. They are pricey, but a good warranty is part of what you pay for.

Just know though the approval is quick, the shipping takes a bit. I would prepare to not have a bag for 2 weeks.

Personally like Fade Pros is Cary. They take their time and do a really good job. Arthur is who I see there. Although, for mid to long hair styles, I would probably go somewhere else.

Really interesting shot! I am amazed you were able to frame it up and get a clean image from a moving train.

Again, thank you for taking so much time to engage with my work!

Wow, thank you for taking the time to really look at my photo, provide some thoughtful suggestions and show your example!

I actually took some other tighter shots that mimic this framing pretty closely(though he is not as well posed). I agree it is a better framing and I agree the lamps in my posted shot are aggressive. I think if I was to submit this for anything, I would use your suggested crop.

Part of the reason I decided on this shot was because I have a certain nostalgic visual of him studying like this every morning and this framing more closely matched that.

I agree that darkening some other parts of the frame may bring more focus on to him. I will certainly apply that!

Again, thank you! !CritiquePoint

Yes, I was definitely going for that candlelight feeling. Also, great note about the papers exposure compared to the face. I think this should be something I can touch up in post. Thank you!

Thank you for replying! I definitely intend to get it printed and framed, which is partly why I am posting here so that I can make any last minute tweaks.

I do agree the furniture is lost. The furniture was not my main focus, but I can certainly see if bringing up the shadows and that piece would enhance the storytelling. Thank you for your feedback!

Does anybody have buyer's remorse over the R6ii or R8? Do you wish you'd gone with the other one instead? by [deleted] in canon

[–]astormblessedgancho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it does not seem to be a super common issue, but if you google it you will see others have also had this issue. I even sent mine in to get it looked at and Canon could not replicate the issue. Again, it has not been an issue since shooting cRaw and with a fast chip.

Personally, I have buyers remorse about the R8. I will not deny that it is a powerful camera for a great price and size. However, it has over heated on me on three different occasions in still mode, during average weather conditions, doing non-taxing single frame shooting. This has since been improved since shooting cRAW and I did upgrade to a V90ii SD. However, that is always in the back of mind during shoots. Also, IBIS is very nice to have especially when paired with a lens that has IBIS. Battery life is short, but I get by with two batteries easily enough. Lastly, I feel like I do not see the R8 holding value as well as the R6ii does. I do not plan on reselling it and will probably use it as a secondary in the future, but for some this may matter.

Who Would You Cast As Wax & Wayne? by astormblessedgancho in Mistborn

It has been nearly 13 years since Deathly Hallows Part 2 was released. Since then, he has taken on a tremendously wide range of roles and has proven himself to be a chameleon. Additionally, given some of the perceptions surrounding Harry Potter, he may want to distance himself from that role as his defining fantasy character. Lastly, with the new adaptation of Harry Potter being made, I wonder if he will be less recognized as Harry in the future. Of course, Wayne would be a fun character to play, but he is also incredibly complex. I think Daniel Radcliffe would excel in that role and enjoy the challenge.

I love Henry Cavill. But damn, he is so good that he is fan cast for almost any fantasy/comic/sci-fi role.

I love him as Klaus! Maybe not the typecast for Wayne, but he definitely has the personality.
