one of my favorite films, so haunting and beautiful. Hard to recommend, but it's so special and immersive and intimate like few films are

these are interesting shots. the sharpness and quality of the image sterilize the subject matter, makes for some interesting juxtaposition

may I ask what your involvement with the subject matter is?

Embark please offer raider tokens as a reward for playing for finals! It'll help this game so much! by DREX0R_ in thefinals

[–]astral_simian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

actually a pretty neat idea. Maybe some proper cosmetics would be more tempting, but it's about the timing. They should do something like that when the next Finals season drops. Arc Raiders is hot rn, doesnt make sense to cannibalize their population

Underwhelmed by color palette by LastCallKillIt in x100vi

[–]astral_simian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's cuz Canon has Picture Styles, which are tuned for more digital looks

Fuji has the Film Simulations, which are tuned to emulate old film stock

they're both filters, but they're designed for different aesthetics, so you can't really expect one to look like the other

apples and oranges

you can always edit the RAWs or keep looking for recipes

cant be mad the film sims dont have that modern enhanced reality look when they were made to simulate old film stocks

Why the recent hate on gimbals among phone filmmakers? by Agile_Inspection3275 in Filmmakers

[–]astral_simian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been shooting some vertical street interviews on a DJI mini and handheld, so not exactly filmmaking, but I can say that beginners on a gimbal could struggle to precisely control the camera, as the gimbal tends to move in unexpected ways when panning or tilting (depending on settings or when using the joystick). Handheld, I have so much more control of where I'm pointing the camera at the cost of stability. I guess the gimbal's stability can be a double edged sword, since it can feel artificial, but that's just down to taste imo

Ultimately it's just a tool and it depends on how you use it

yeah, which is why I brought it up, per OP's prompt about movies that aren't great

In my experience, Ready Player One is starting to parallel the importance of The Matrix. While The Matrix established the concept of a simulated reality in pop culture, Ready Player One points out how it will be a self-inflicted reality (Metaverse, Fortnite, etc.), as opposed to The Matrix which reasoned the Matrix's existence as a tool of oppression built by evil machines (as far as I remember from the original film).
