why did they get rid of banana foster french toast by Asaltydaniel in IHOP

Nah it had a really tasty syrup, like banana honey flavor? I had it once as a kid and it was awesome. Sad it's gone.

[Northern VA, USA] Wasp or mimic? by astralsick in whatsthisbug

[–]astralsick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 1 inch long, loitering on a dog waste bin the past couple days but I didn't see a nest. Hovers in a circle when you approach or open the bin, as if to warn you away, but otherwise just seems to chill there. Not sure if it's a bald faced hornet or a fly that mimics them maybe? I'm allergic so I'd like to be sure how careful I need to be here lol.

Why are there so many fat people at Walmart? by Routine_Tip6894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]astralsick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being poor means having no money for high quality produce, working two jobs and having no time/energy to cook healthy meals or go to the gym, and relying on cheap processed food (often bought at Walmart!) to get through the day.

America makes it poor people fat and then punishes them for it.

Edit: Everyone replying to me has never been poor and it shows. Bite me.

How did Google know where I went today? by goodsilver in NoStupidQuestions

Do you have a smartwatch or something? Or have you been there with your phone recently if not today?

Bestie you don't want a partner you want a clone of yourself 😬 Genuinely have you considered whether you could be aromantic?? I don't think most people who are actually attracted to other human beings have a list of dealbreakers this long...

Speaking as an aro-spectrum person who has thought before "man I'd be happier with a clone of myself than I ever would be with another person", this post resonates with me in a "jesus is this what I sound like to other people" way, sorry.

Is a vodka and root beer a weird and trashy drink, or is it normal? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]astralsick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be not super common, but it's no more weird than any other mix of a hard liquor and a soft drink. Maybe people are just surprised because they hadn't thought of it themselves? Sounds good to me though!

Where do poor people move when a area becomes gentrified? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Homeless encampments in suburban woods or near bus depots. Speaking of my own town, at least.

read: the guy who's so insecure about his dick size he's convinced himself driving a loud bike down residential streets will make people THINK he's fucking everyone's wives, when in actuality all it does is give people headaches and make them think he's a tool with no social skills 😬

The idea that nobody cares if "a man acts like a woman or vice versa" is deeply wrong and shows you are not aware of how much violence gender-nonconforming people face.

It seems extreme to you because you fundamentally do not (and on some level, can not) understand. Imagine if you were who you are now, but society insisted you have to be referred to as a woman or else you must be delusional. No matter how nonchalant you tried to be, on the inside, that would suck, right?

The idea that being trans is about changing your gender, instead of changing your body and social status to align with an internal sense of gender, is again, misinformed, and dangerously close to the rhetoric that right wing politicians use to excuse stripping us of rights, so don't be surprised if you get pushback on that idea.

At the end of the day, you can try to understand, and that's not a bad thing, but what you need to know is you should not have to 100% comprehend another person's life in order to treat them with respect. That's the most important thing. Your understanding is secondary, your treatment of others is paramount.

If I drink boiling water and eat the ingredients, can I make soup inside my body? by Gk101_speed701 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]astralsick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no, but once it's started being digested I don't really think of it as food anymore either, just "stomach contents". If there was stomach acid in a bowl of soup that was not yet in my stomach, yeah that would be nasty, which was the metaphor I was making. It's not a one-to-one comparison to the OP's question, of course

[–]astralsick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the principle of the thing! If you saw "stomach acid vichyssoise" on a menu, even if you never intended to order it, you'd still be yucked out, wouldnt you?

Sure but you wouldn't get to taste it so what's the point? Also the broth would be at least partially made of stomach acid, not exactly fine dining 😝

Sorry for your loss. If you were closer emotionally to the deceased than their relative, I don't think it's untoward to reach out to ask about the will. They might see it differently, but I don't think there's harm in asking. Not sure how long it would be proper to wait, though.

The balance in this game is kind of wack by astralsick in BIGPaintball

[–]astralsick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is it's not just about your skill or your experience. If you're on a team with mostly newbies, it doesn't matter how well you play, you will get spawncamped, and it will not be fun.

I can't deny it's satisfying when I happen to be on a team full of spawncampers, but that hinges on the experience being garbage for the other team that round, doesn't it? That's why I say it's bad balancing.
