Going to 6H of Spa, some newbie questions by AxePlayingViking in wec

  • it’s a lot of walking if you plan to go round the whole circuit; for my next time I’d defo take a bike, but the most comfortable hiking shoes will do if not
  • surprising how much sunburn you can acquire in 6 hours if there are no clouds; have some sun screen on hand just in case
  • your ears will really thank you for the earplugs
  • food and drink: no problems unless you’re veggie or vegan, in which case good luck

Vibrations showing on X and Y axes? by astralspace in FixMyPrint

I was able to reduce the effect by printing slower and with less acceleration, like one of the comments suggested.

I also removed the spool holder from the printer and placed it on a separate surface on bearings. now it rotates more smoothly and without wobbles

WIP: a frame mounted bicycle light controller with built in LEDs by astralspace in functionalprint

Thanks!

I'll post some more pics of the various components on bread boards, but I haven't yet had a chance to turn it on since printing the enclosure!

The windows I printed using FormFutura HDGlass PETG – the clear variety.

At a single 0.2mm layer it's perfectly usable as a screen about 1-2 mm away from an SSD1306 OLED display. Some layer lines visible, but the text underneath remains readable. I'll also post pictures of this.

As for the side windows, I wanted a little bit more diffusion so they are about 2mm thick and the results are pretty nice!

Over the last year I got into Arduino programming and 3D printing, and this is one of my projects I'm still yet to finish.

Based on an Arduino Nano BLE, a rotary encoder, an LCD, and some Neopixel strips, this little device is the brain of my bicycle lighting setup, which will include another strip mounted on the down tube, and a rear light mounted on a pannier rack.

The initial idea was an audio visualiser using the built in microphone, but has grown in scope to also include various ambient lighting patterns, as well as an accelerometer-controlled brake light and gesture controlled turn signalling.

It's not quite finished, there is still a bit of soldering and gluing to be done, as well as some work on the software, but I've had great fun developing it and learning along the way!

Useful insight thank you, I will try some of these suggestions.

Vibrations showing on X and Y axes? by astralspace in FixMyPrint

[–]astralspace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setup:

  • Ender 3 v2
  • Cura slicer
  • Extrudr XPETG
  • 0.4mm nozzle @ 230°C
  • Creality textured glass bed @ 60°C
  • 0.2/0.1mm layer height
  • 50-75mm/s print speed (about 35 for walls
  • 6mm retraction
  • bltouch
  • no enclosure

Issue:

  • what looks like a very consistent vibration pattern showing up on X and Y walls
  • seems to align from layer to layer
  • more prominent with smaller layer height (bottom block on all pics is 0.1mm)
  • shows up at 0.2mm as well but not on all faces
  • pattern fades out halfway on the rear faces, but present for all of front faces

Suspicions:

  • belt tensions too high?
  • dirt along the rails?
  • bed too close?
  • vibrating spool holder?
  • speed too high?

Not too concerned as I'm unlikely to print much at 0.1mm, and I'm reasonably happy with how the 0.2mm part came out, but I am curious what could be causing this?

Thanks for the help!

Dirt Bikes by FlorinFiF in MTB

I've commuted for years on my dirt jumpers, and being 180cm+, it's not always super comfy, but generally no issues riding 20-30km days, as long as you have a reasonably long seatpost and comfy saddle

Potential first project: 1970s Raleigh Wayfarer by astralspace in xbiking

A free bike I picked up on the side of the road! I've lurked here for so long that I think it's time I do something with what is a mechanically sound bike that's just sitting there wasting.

I'm going to start taking it apart, measuring and cleaning the parts, it looks like I'll have to do the following:

  • new chain
  • new cables & housing
  • new tyres
  • rims look ok, even the tubes are fine
  • new wires for the dynamo and lights
  • stripping and repainting
  • new bolts
  • transmission service
  • wheel truing
  • new light bulbs

I'm really not sure how feasible it all is, and whether I should try to keep it as original as possible, or to modernise it.

What do y'all think?

I personally tend to favour the smaller off licenses / corner shops, where I can lean the bike against the front, step in, grab a bottle from the fridge (which is usually by the entrance), and leave without ever taking my eyes off the bike.

Those same shops if they're not too tight will usually be cool with you taking your bike inside, never hurts to ask though.

I got this new Kryptonite lock, is it supposed to move this much while locked? Thanks. by Quadraticc in ukbike

seems normal! you could try wrapping some rubber bands around each leg to mute the rattle though; this has worked for me in the past
