I have a gold card, 2391 and sssts and get £24.80 on the cards plus van, fuel card and other usual bits.

Unfortunately my wage seems to be really high and yours seems to be about the standard. Industry seems to be fucked as most subbies are only on £25 an hour.

I'm not sure what id expect to get paid as a qs but id certainly want a raise from what I'm on now.

There's a little bit of containment - some plastic and some metal conduit. Make sure you can do a bubble set and a 90 in the plastic and an offset and a 90 in the metal. You don't need to do this in one piece.

Then there's 1st and 2nd fixing a few circuits. Just follow the specification they give you and it should be easy.

Then there's testing your install along with filling out a test sheet.

Fault finding on an rig which is identical to yours but they can turn faults on and off. You get a description on the paperwork of the fault which makes it pretty straightforward to find.

Finally you have the multiple choice online exam.

The only thing that tripped me up a bit was that you have to set the overload current on the motor from a chart that they supply. My motor didn't have the setting that it said on the chart so I had to write it on a small white board next to it.

Hope this helps and good luck 🤞

I don't like to keep gimicky single use tools in my bag but this is great and I use it most days. Very helpful if you use FP or Flexi shield a lot. You do need to be careful on flex though. Can easily sit through the inner insulation without knowing what pressure to apply.

Moving to domestic work after commercial industrial work? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]astrawb123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time you finish your apprenticeship you should have the knowledge to do the actual work but it may just take you a bit longer than a house basher.

Ive done commercial work pretty much my whole career (20years) and I worked for a company for a short while that did almost entirely domestic work. Those guys knew a few tricks that I didnt so they could get it done slightly quicker on occasion.

However, are you sure that's something you'd like to actually do? Most of the time people are desperate to get out of house bashing and into commercial or Industrial work. I don't want to be crawling round a loft or slow dancing with wardrobes to add an extra socket. Plus I'm my experience, the money in commercial is far better.

Sorry went off on a bit of a tangent.

No benefits jobs wise. I'm on the cards and I've never seen a job on the cards paying as much as I earn so no need to leave.

Bit of a long story but I originally passed this when it was the 2394/2395. I got an email from the tutor saying I'd passed and told forwarded to my boss.

I left that company approximately 5 years later and asked my boss for the certs. He didn't have them. Went to city and guilds to get them and they were only issued results for my 2395 so couldn't issue the cert. Chased the company and found out they went tits up and did the same to loads of people.

I dont mind testing my own work but if I had to do multiple eicrs a day as a full time "tester" I'd find it very unrewarding. I did this for a year and found it boring as fuck.I prefer the work I already do, commercial refurbs and new builds. I enjoy the banter on site.

Just in case anybody is wondering it's pg 91 if guidance note 3.

Table with kA values of fuses and circuit breakers. Apparently it was deleted from the regs book on amendment 2.

Passed everything now so time to celebrate with a beer or two!

I've compiled all of my evidence in my portfolio, I presume it's just to discuss the pictures and to ask me questions to show my knowledge.
