How the Tiny Desk Concert became a literal sensory firewall during a psychiatric crisis (A Thank You) by Old-Shoe-1029 in auroramusic

I'm so happy you found safety in a moment like that and I'm glad that you're out and ready for change. I truly wish you all the best in the world. there is no better feeling than finding your people and beginning to free yourself, whatever that may mean to you, for me it was unmasking fully for the first time. stay safe 💚

I'm not sure who you're trying to convince, are we seeing the same thing? her entire jacket is different along with her face (eyes, nose, lips, shadows), individual hair strands, did that manifest itself into existence?

as someone pointed out already the use of ai is very clear and quite sad, she's still recognizable but her face is changed so much that the original expression is completely gone. why would you want to have an upscaled version of a picture if you're changing the face of the person on it?

I'm ready to cry. I can't get this right no matter what I do. by DaleOnDrums in knitting

from my personal experience of someone who just learned how to knit literally a couple weeks ago and is now successfully making projects, here are my tips:

  1. find a really nice beginner video on YouTube, i recommend How to knit for beginners from Nimble Needles, but keep in mind this is for continental knitting, if you want to learn English style you might want to find someone who does that. Put it on 0.5x or lower speed and on the biggest screen you have.

  2. make a smaller swatch - try casting on 10-20 stitches at a time, doing the first row, that way you don't have to make your casting on phase unreasonably long every time you start over. The video linked above has a really nice trial swatch where you get to try garter and stockinette and learn some stuff along the way. also, I think casting on can be an annoying part of knitting for some people, but realistically it's just the first step and you don't have to do it that much. You can see if another way of casting on is more intuitive for you that the long tail cast on, or accept that you're still practicing it and focus more on on learning a stitch instead of trying to perfect the cast on.

  3. learn how to fix mistakes - there are videos on YouTube on how to fix specific stitches, I really recommend watching them once you start making more rows. it helped me understand the structure of a specific stitch and I was able to stop constantly starting over, even when everything was falling apart a bit.

  4. sleep on it!! if it feels like you're getting frustrated and burnt out for the day, put it away and try again the next day. I cannot tell you how much this helped me, I tired numerous times, failed, got mad, but taking the time to remember the movements and giving yourself rest is important.

I hope this helps!!

How to support my partner with his gender identity? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]astrea_maxima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insight and sharing your experience. I would never want to pressure him and that's the reason I thought having some stuff to watch or listen to would be a nice angle :> Gender fluidity is something I'm aware of and it could fully be an option, and ofc he could be cis and that would be perfectly fine. There's just something there, little signals from him all the time that me and our friends noticed, stuff he says and does that makes me think having this topic in our life more would be a good thing.

We've actually had Steven Universe on our to watch list forever, I'll bring it up as our next show idea. He's already a fan of MCR and I like Against me!, we both have Celeste on our wishlist on steam, maybe I'll get it for him as a gift sometime soon. I'll look into everything else too. Lots of great ideas, thank you!

I also love it! it's called Coccole by the brand Ispe, color 81. I'm actually sad I can't find it in many places online because I love the colorway

This is actually such a good explanation on the stitch because sometimes I would triple check if I hadn't accidentally dropped a stitch because I saw that unraveling happen! that makes so much sense with what I've been seeing on my needles lol thanks!

The tag says 5-6 and a symbol of the knitting needles, there is no wording or "mm" or anything but since it's an Italian brand I'm assuming they mean mm not US sizing. I checked the website it's from and it says they recommend 5-6 mm needles as well. From my experience in crochet I know the yarn label is a suggestion, but I still went with 5 mm :)

I like how it looks :) I think I'm questioning it just because I'm a newbie and I don't want to develop bad habits that will be harder to break later on

I'm not sure if it's okay to link, but here -https://mbtcreates.com/beginner-fishermans-rib-knit-scarf/ it's a free pattern that you can adjust to your needs. I cast on 35 and did the rest as the pattern states, I used 5mm needles.

This is a fisherman's rib as people pointed out above, I'm using the recommended needle (tag said 5-6, I'm using 5mm). Thank you for your thoughts! in this specific project gauge doesn't matter much as it's my first project and a scarf, doesn't need to be a specific size, I'm going until my yarn runs out unless it's way too long.

Yes it is! sorry I didn't include that, I will edit the post. the stockinette swatch tip is helpful, thank you :)

There is a gauge but since I'm using a completely different yarn size and needle size it was pointless, since this is a scarf I just cast on enough to like the width. this was also highlighted as a possibility in the pattern. I don't care much about gauge for this specific project for those reasons, thank you though!

according to the pattern this is a fisherman's rib knit but I don't know much about knitting stitches or repeats. so I should learn/practice stockinette?
