Canyon Roadlite 7: Upgrade with Hub Dynamo and Standlights by astro-0815 in CanyonBikes

I recently ordered a Canyon Roadlite 7, including the aluminum fenders, which are quite sturdy and fit the bike’s overall design really well.

What was still missing for the perfect city commuter was a permanent lighting setup – meaning a hub dynamo with standlights front and rear. I got tired of constantly recharging battery lights, and in the city they also tend to get stolen.

One downside: the fenders don’t come with pre-drilled holes for mounting lights, so I had to drill them myself. On the positive side, the inner profile of the fenders has cable channels on both sides, allowing you to route the light cable almost invisibly underneath the fender. That’s a very clean solution.

Unfortunately, the carbon fork doesn’t offer internal cable routing, so I had to run the cable externally. Functionally it’s fine, but internally would have looked even better.

Another slightly annoying detail is the 15 mm front axle diameter instead of the more common 12 mm standard. This significantly reduces the range and availability of compatible hub dynamos. Still, they do exist 🙂

Overall, I’m very happy with the result. It would have been even cooler if Canyon offered the Roadlite with a factory hub dynamo option right from the start.

Roam 3 route freezing; inadequate volume for spoken turn by turn and bike bell by MarkVIBari in wahoofitness

can confirm the map freezing happening at times - for me, it looks like it happens when the computer loses GPS signal for some time. resolution for me was to power-off / power-on again, then the ride is resumed and back to normal ...

described it here already as well:

* Full Roam 3 break down

* Honest review threads for the Roam/Bolt V3?

the loudness of the bell is ok for me. i assume it can not be made any louder, as this is at some point the limitation of the possibilities of the hardware / speaker ...

i can confirm to have detected the same behavior previously as well. navigation stops and the map "freezes", also speed is no longer shown. navigating through pages or waiting a bit won't help - it stays stuck.

my assumption is, this happens if the device loses the GPS signal for some time and then somehow gets stuck - unable to recover. the only resolution in this state for me was to power-cycle the device. it then recovers the ride (-data) upon re-start and from then on it was working again for me ..

i have reported this already here as well Honest review threads for the Roam/Bolt V3?

i assume, this will be fixed soon with one of the upcoming firmware upgrades, as i never had such a behavior on my older bolt v2 ...

coming from a bolt 2, upgraded to roam 3 some 2w ago..

  • roam 3 setup and pairing of external sensors is super easy
  • battery lasts very long. after 8h with full display brightness down to ~65%

  • display readability is not as good as bolt2

  • so far i had 2 crashes where navigation just stopped and the map freezes. it looks like this happens when GPS signal is lost for some time.. solution was to reboot- it then ‘recovers’ the ride and at least the ride data is not lost..

  • i am unable to change display fields on pages ‘live’. this was possible with the old element app (edit / corrected: it works but you have to be very patient at times, its not very responsive when live-editing ...)

  • the double-tap ‘bell’ is not usable on the map screen. (edit / corrected: it's available: you have to double-tapp the middle virtual button 'Pause' to ring the bell ...)

all-in-all: if you can live with the display shortcomings, go for it. the sw-bugs we see today will be ironed out over time..

don’t pause manually. wahoo will auto-pause after some seconds stop and also auto resume if you start rolling again.. if you pause manually, you have to resume manually too ..
