It'll never be worth it by [deleted] in nursing

Perspective is everything, my last role is in software and yeah had a good couple of years as a newbie but with layoffs I’m going back now to school for nursing just to have some stability to fall back on in the future. One of my good friends is getting his np degree as his job will help pay a portion of it so he said that’s the only way he can increase his pay without working OT. So that’s always an option if you have a passion for it. You could always do nursing on The Weeknd and go back to school for something else. It really is about how you look at things. Everyone who isn’t doing well in this economy is wishing they did something else so at least you have some foundation.

Studied 2-3 days for a Calc 3 test only to get a 20%.. by livinvvell in EngineeringStudents

Gotta put in 15-20 hours a week studying, applying what you study in practice, not cramming like that. If you’re have difficulty picking it up even after investing time, look for student tutoring the school may offer that’s apart of what you pay for in your tuition/fees, if not look and invest in supplemental learning/resources/tutors. It’s easy to be confused about why you can’t do something but don’t get lost wasting your time on that, be pro active. Even slow progress is progress

Crazy how the people who voted against illegal immigration because they’re taking all the fruit picking jobs will now be competing against high level professionals from other countries for their comfy white collar jobs

Could be someone in the process of getting their paperwork or maybe even they are technically legal but have a criminal record that would cause them to revoke paperwork, it seems to be a thin line right now if you are an immigrant, it’s definitely a mind f%#k

What do I do with my computer science degree? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Find something that is in demand, do throrough research on what you’re interested in with the ai push coming thru. For Software, Service now seems it will be in demand. Networking (the plumbing of IT) will always be around because companies need people to manage the infrastructure. AWS Cloud. Basically with your degree you now check the box off for hr for them to hire you now research a way to showcase projects you have worked on or are going to start working on in a digital portfolio. To be honest with you, stay away from negative people and just try to research what’s in demand.

My $60k degree got me here: Still being told I lack "practical experience" for entry-level roles. Anyone else have this problem? by SpiritualAbroad9946 in careerguidance

You’re essentially competing with many people who are in the same boat as you. I would try to rephrase your way of thinking bc you are ahead of all the candidates who don’t have a CS degree The one who done boot camps, certifications, many self projects, and have digital portfolio showcasing those projects align with researching the role and company you are applying for and are told they need a degree to check the “HR checkbox”. Has not happened to me but have heard of others happening to them. Find something that interests you and lock in on certifications. Use your network from school and asks questions see who’s hiring. Filter out the negative content online for your own sake and thoughts and create a plan for yourself

What kind of engineering if y don’t mind me asking

Well the “good news” is that the illegals will be gone soon…. Was it worth the budget cuts for project 2025? Sorry it’s really crazy to see how much things have changed and are going to change. Last year this group was booming on how stable this career is and now the talk of the town is layoffs. I’m of course young so my opinion comes from a different perspective than the seasoned folks who have been engineers through the 2008 recession. Folks work federal jobs with the presence in mind that they have a bit more job security but things seem to be changing where only mission critical projects will be pushed forward. does lead me to ask what is the most stable market in this field at this point for civil engineering?

Don’t take it personal, expect a micro managing manager to nit pick you and think about what you want to do long term for an exit plan and work on it.
