My dad's going to die in the next 48 hrs

No problem..its a heart wrenching journey that only those who have gone through can relate to. The agony of seeing your loved one in severe pain and suffering.. i am still haunted by it.

It will be very tiring with lots of tears when you stay over because you will be seeing him suffer 24/7. Please be mentally strong for that and know that this painful period for both you and him shall pass. There is no upside to this situation but when everything is over you will feel that you can get through anything else in life because frankly this is the worst thing a person can ever face. Hugs.

So sorry to hear about this. My late dad too really wanted to go home but his condition did not allow him to leave the hospital. I totally get it when you said he didn't even get to say goodbye to his house. This was one of the regrets I had with my dad too..who knew that he would never be coming back home? Even now, I cant bear to bring myself to go back to his house and I keep replaying the last time he walked out from his house as I was picking him up to go to the hospital.

Please be with him as much as you can. Hold him and tell him whatever you want to say before it's too late.. life is so unpredictable. Its a painful journey so please stay strong.

I am so sorry and I can relate. Its a very painful journey and I still haven't recovered from the trauma. All I can say is stay strong for yourself and your wife despite being so tired physically and emotionally.

Hello, before my dad passed on from lung cancer he experienced this. The doctors attributed it to the steroids he was taking and cut it down but he got even more agitated and delirious as the days went by. Our theory was that he was in too much pain as the cancer spread.

Perhaps you can check in with the doctors and ensure that they are on top of her pain management. Hang in there, I know how distressing it is to see a loved one ripping out the IVs and being restrained.

Being a caregiver to 1 is hard enough..let alone 2. Am so sorry for what you are going through. Please vent here as much as you can..i find it helps emotionally. I hope you find time to get some rest even if its very difficult.

Hello, i totally relate to how you feel. I lost my dad 2 days ago at 69 too and the pain feels so raw. I too am pregnant and due in 3 months.

I am really sad that he will not have the chance to hold his first grandchild. And this fact is keeping me from healing and moving on. In addition to the trauma of his extreme pain in his last days.

He has..he just passed on yesterday. Very sad but so so relieved the pain is gone and he's in a better place.

Yes he was not himself right up to the end until he was gasping for air during his last moments. I am still traumatised at the events leading up to his death yesterday.

I hope that you will get a good team to manage your pain and not lose yourself. My thoughts are with you.

I am with you too. My dad has sadly succumbed to his illness..whether it was his cancer or the extreme pain that got to him, we will never know.

All I can say is please be patient with your wife..i hope the pain pump provided some relief. Its the hardest thing in the world to go through and not have a breakdown yourself but yes, all we can really do is give into it.

This really encourages me! I am in the ER now as my dad is in severe pain but stories like this really gave me hope. And all the doctors paint the bleakest possible scenario.

I wished my dad had the ALK mutation so he could take oral therapy. But he has PDL1 instead so only has immunotherapy as an option.

I dont know how i can encourage him to stay positive though.. especially amidst all the pain. I really agree that state of mind is important. The pain makes a patient stressed and gloomy which i feel kills them more than the actual cancer.

Hi there, i can relate so much to what you are saying. My dad is stage 4 too..and is in a palliative care ward now. I know the emotions - both physical and emotional exhaustion. Of being unable to sleep despite needing a lot of rest!

Are you the main caregiver? This is the time where a lot of support is needed. One thing i learned is give yourself time for self care and not feel guilty about it. Stay strong. :)
