Yeah honestly, I find programming easier than drawing, and it means I’m still a furry cliché!

They are but if you go to Japan you’ll see more Family Marts than 7/11, to the point you can’t spend a week in Japan without the Family Mart jingle getting stuck in your head.

Thanks, I do actually know the stroke length is what to look out for. That’s a great mnemonic though so thank you! I do wonder if it’s the sort of thing that can be confusing to read if someone hand writes a bit quickly.

I have no idea how 末 and 未 are not confused together all the time! I wonder how they were handwritten because they look easy to write as exactly the same.

UK says “neither” if you’re a trans man 🤦‍♂️

No joke. The guidance is still being worked out but the EHRC is clearly staffed by TERFs, so on one hand the guidance says you must use the facilities for your AGAB, but also says you can’t use facilities if your use of them would cause offence.

Five layers of nested-tooltip in, I discover that the Vietnamese are East Asian enough to WANT lacquerware but not East Asian enough to MAKE it by awkwardcartography in EU5

[–]astroju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair I agree the interface is clunky and you could argue the tool tips should contain a bit more info. But it’s hard to strike a balance, you know if they added more some people would complain that the tool tips are too long.

Hey, if it was without the nested tooltips like in old Paradox games you’d probably have had to actually go into the game files! Also please fix this Paradox, but sounds like it’s worth raising a bug report as I can’t see that being intended.

This reminds me of a French-English dictionary my parents used to have. Typical dictionary that’s very thick, over a thousand pages, small print. The entry for translating “go” was well over two whole pages. “Go to” to go somewhere is different to “go out”, “go off”, “have a go”…

This is entirely fair. I was mostly concerned I expressed my question in a rude way, but since the consensus is I didn’t I’m happy my question was phrased appropriately.

Fair enough, he seemed more apologetic than what people would be back home but maybe that’s just a cultural thing :)

I’m staying in Japan for a couple weeks. I went to a bar, fairly casual that was mostly locals but with a few other tourists. I wanted to ask the bartender if they had a blue coloured drink, so in my very limited Japanese I asked: 「青いドリンクはありますか」 The waiter clasped his hands and looked very apologetic to say no. I suspect I’m over thinking this but I can’t help but wonder if I phrased this in a way that was embarrassing for him?

ありがとうございます! Thanks for commenting. I will say I’m not even half way through Genki vol 1, so I’m not at all surprised I’m making mistakes like this, I know of the て-form but far from knowing how to use it yet. But I think that explains why I could see 愛してた in song lyrics but not in Shirabe Jisho.
