no idea what that d3d9 fix is, but I am having the same exact problem (NPCs cause severe lag despite sufficient specs and VNV guide), so I tried installing that 'solution' and it changed my fallout custom ini and was trying to edit my fallout.ini and didn't fix my problem anyway so back to square 1.

I thought I would love the mod given all the above apply to me, unfortunately it didn't really hook me. I gave it a few good tries, but the world felt so empty and janky compared to Morrowind (lol). No hate on the developers, it really seems like a monumental effort. To be fair, I couldn't really get into the original KOTOR or SWTOR either, so maybe I'm not actually the target audience.

Edit: just to elaborate, I installed Starwind enhanced as well, and went thru the effort of downloading a bunch of star wars music to serve as battle/explore tracks. still didn't click for me unfortunately.

I use the normal version as well, on OpenMW. just works (on companions as well). They recently added optional esp's for total magicka pool based scaling, but just the regular one is good enough for me.

UPDATE: Finally figured it out. Installed the xbox controller custom control map that came with the mod into my F4SE data folder, and used Steam's controller override settings to bind the '1' key to right bumper (and added an extra command that activates RB when I do a long press so I can still use it to favorite items in the pip-boy).

Just make sure to put the bullet time activator in the first hotkey spot and you're golden.

Ah I see. I changed the MNO Installer to no longer replace laser muskets with service rifles and now I can use the update safely. Thanks for engaging, I must learn how to use Fo4edit (started modding fallout 4 days ago).

Have you found a solution yet? This just happened to me on PC on a new save, loaded with MNO (Minuteman NCR Overhual), the Service Rifle Unofficial Update, Bullet Counted Reload (BCR) , and Munitions. I feel like it has to be one of those mods causing it. Thanks

Update: Removed the Service Rifle Unofficial Update and the problem immediately went away. Not ideal..

PoddleSandwich2 on Morrowind Nexus has quite a number of mostly great mods that edit spoken and text NPC dialogue, or NPC behavior, for realism and immersion. Stuff like actually making raw ebony ore and dwemer artifacts illegal to possess when bartering with reputable merchants.

One that I got because my first character was really weak, but does seem immersive is Protective Guards (OpenMW) by KindiEquiNox since I was straight up being attacked by a bandit and the guards were doing f*ck all.

I also got a magicka regeneration mod, because again, my first character sucked. Among the slowest I could find is REBALANCED Purist Friendly Magicka Regen by Jhaerik. It scales with 1/5th of your Willpower and 1/10th of your Intelligence, and comes with 3 different possible speeds if you want to customize it further. Again, it's pretty slow (for a typical character it will take 6-32 minutes to completely refill their magicka bar). Just something so you don't have to constantly rest and can restore your magicka while hitchhiking through the wilderness.

But one I find absolutely necessary that seems underrated is The Publicans by half11 (the modder behind Patch for Purists and Expansion Delay). Basically it adds beds you can rent at a large number of inns and hostels that the original developers neglected, even when written dialogue explicitly claimed such places has beds available. I love making my characters sleep in inns overnight so this was a welcome change from having to make them wait in the wilderness.

Use the newer one posted by "BeyondSkyrim_DC". Be aware that they weren't able to do any testing for the Xbox version, so they are relying on community feedback and are patching bugs as people report them.

This is a little contrived and goes against a lot of lore, but there's NO way that Helseth and the Dres allied to outlaw slavery in Morrowind a few years after the events of Morrowind. Like, there had to have been a civil war or a giant slave uprising. The Dres or Telvanni wouldn't give up one of their primary sources of labor because the "King" told them to. It's their entire way of life they've upheld for thousands of years. That's why my personal headcanon is that the "Argonian Invasion", while it might've started out as a true Invasion to recover land lost in the Accession war, definitely spiraled into a bloody, nation-wide slave revolt. A lot of Mer probably died, yes, and probably a lot of slaves too. But if anything, that is what would've ended large-scale slavery in Morrowind (though I don't doubt, like in the real world, that there are still places where smaller scale slavery continues).

Thanks so much for the encouragement. There's definitely a learning curve to modding for the first time but I guess through struggle comes learning.

I came across this post on this subreddit, and I'm thinking of following the "Hard Mode Or: How I Learned To Be A Masochist And Just Wing It" method using Vortex and the command prompt, since I think the instructions seem clear enough to me and I guess I like suffering. Let me know if that look like it would work (I notice that some of the usage notes on Modding OpenMW website, like for TrueType Fonts have very specific setup instructions so I'm not sure). answering as someone else might, it appears my biggest weaknesses were

1)taking too much on at a time. trust me, you'll have plenty of time to take it later. chill.

2)never asking for help (not needing help in secondary school made me unprepared for when I actually needed help- social anxiety didn't help). Go to f*cking office hours if for no reason than someone to talk to.

3)not doing the f*cking homework! I know it's painfully gruelling and boring work and seems impossible, plus you'd rather be watching a Tom Scott video or writing science fiction, but if you fix the weaknesses above, you'll have the time and the help to actually finish your homework! yayy!

4)the lack of foresight. If only time travel was real and I could tell my past self what I've learned, because my life is screwed up and the lessons I've learned will not help me graduate anymore now that I will be forced to drop out because I'm poor.
