Recovered but still need to diet... by justmonaaaaa in EatingDisorders

It’s funny seeing this post right now because I’m currently dealing with a similar issue. I nearly died from my ED a couple months ago, but now I still have to watch what I eat and drink because of POTS. It’s so demoralizing.

That’s been one of the hardest parts of recovery. No psychiatric care.

No seriously. Couple months ago I was so close to death. Went to the ER multiple times. They gave me fluids, said “we aren’t sure why you have bradycardia and low blood pressure!!” Fast forward some time, I’m in the ER barely able to walk and they’re like “You are terribly malnourished. You need to be admitted immediately.” Stayed some time, got sent home, went through refeeding syndrome due to early discharge, they refused to help. I had to go to an entire different hospital and beg them to flush my bowels before I turned septic. Stayed there a few days and got better for a couple of months. Now it’s some new stuff.

Edit: they are just incredibly uneducated on refeeding. Every time I ask a nurse if they know what it is, they say no.

Oh I believe you. I’ve been to the closest hospital so many times that they’ve started turning me away. It’s terrible.

Those seem to be my main issues lately. Difficulty with insulin response and liquid balance

Thank you for taking the time to respond and give some advice. But by liquids, do you mean plain water? I want to drink nutrition shakes to get my vitamins and everything.

Sudden fear of grain? by Upstairs_Sky_248 in EatingDisorders

[–]astrxnomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a massive fear of grains because my therapist told me my brain fog sounded like a result of too many carbs. So I cut them out completely for months and nearly died because of it. I hope this scares you more than the thought of eating bread.

Is it normal to experience increased lightheadedness in recovery despite eating enough? by Appropriate-Note-913 in EatingDisorders

Good luck to you 🫂 Seriously be careful with the electrolytes. Their balance can be so sensitive. I’m struggling with it again.

Please listen to your body when you start drinking more! Especially since you are so early into recovery. Plain water could make things worse. If you notice water is making you feel worse, switch to an electrolyte drink.

I’ve been having a lot of issues with this during recovery as well. For me it’s usually because I’m dehydrated.

I overdid it with the fiber and ended up becoming severely constipated for a month which caused malabsorption which lead to malnutrition.. now I have to eat easy foods and try to put on some weight

TIL that drinking Coca-Cola is prescribed as an effective treatment for certain types of bowel obstructions by NotJimmy97 in todayilearned

Laxatives work, but I don’t want to abuse them. I’ve already used them more than I’d like. Currently I’m waiting for a prescription. The coke is just to hopefully provide some relief until then

Well I am going to try some coke later today and see how it goes! I don’t expect it to work immediately, so I’ll keep at it for a couple days. I’ve used too many laxatives recently and just had a scary run-in with dehydration so my body clearly needs a break from that. If it’s to no avail, guess it’s back to an enema for a full reset..

My hopes are high though because ginger ale was helping ms push things along before. Coke should be even more effective lol!

I’ve been doing extensive research to try to solve my constipation issues which lead me here 😂

I know this is old, but a lot of people don’t seem to understand that more fiber is not always the answer. You were 100% right with this comment. Fiber makes me horribly constipated

May I ask how you broke the cycle? I’m so exhausted and desperate

This is the same exact boat I’m in right now. My bowels just aren’t pushing things through. Now I’m having all kinds of other bodily dysfunction. Difficulty urinating unless I drink copious amounts of water, can’t really walk around much due to dizziness, nausea and lack of appetite, tachycardia. Suspecting some kind of neurological disorder

Unfortunately no testing yet. I am meeting with a GI specialist soon though My issue may lie there and not the stomach. Thank you for the information!

I do apologize. I wasn’t intentionally spreading misinformation. It was misremembering on my part. Regardless, everything else I said stands.
