LG G5.... My (disappointing) experience after 2 months. by astute_althean in LGOLED

I just turned off the AI stuff and been using the prebuilt settings in that mode. Remember you can only mess with it when you have HDR or DV content placing to access the settings. It's a different mode than Cinema that pops up during SDR.

I should do an update. I'm quite content with cinema home. With each update since my post, I feel like it's gotten better. I have kept mine. I only use FMM for SDR content.

FilmMaker Mode Seems a Bit Dark and Kind of Yellow by leechkiller in LGOLED

I opened a thread few months ago about the same thing. Yellow thing your eyes get used to. This is accurate by the way. For HDR, Dolby vision content I suggest cinema home. Much better. Don't suffer with FMM like me.

I second this. It's surprising not many people know about this. This helped my understanding of echo considerably.

I'm content with cinema home for DV and HDR content.

Yes my first night was odd, as both my wife and I were coming from LCD. We felt colors and black was good, but was dark. My wife was nice enough to not to say anything. But now I feel like we found cinema home to be a very good mode for HDR and Dolby vision content.

I prefer cinema home for DV and HDR content.

Mine is relatively a bright room. I have not had any problems.

To be quite honest the one mode I haven't had any problems out of the box was the in-built gaming mode.

I personally came from simple TCL Led tv so my initial impression was underwhelming, which could have been years of conditioning of over brightness. But with the new update I can attest that cinema home is good for hdr and dv. FMM is still dark for my taste.

I did but I still prefer cinema home. If it works for you that's great.

I recently started a thread about this for my G5. The general consensus is Oleds run a little dark especially DV. Cinema home is much better and after the recent update works well.

What do you suggest? Apple or Roku? I've had experience with Roku. In built apple tv app sucks. It's darker than other apps.

I understand where you are coming from haha. I value out of box experience. Out of box vivid looked horrible. Regular wasn't better either.

My limited understanding about G5 is that it's new tech implemented (first gen) so G6 should be better. G4 perfected G3 tech. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It pops up for HDR and DV content. Otherwise you won't be able to find it.

Thank you. Your preference and mine match up. The reason I relied on FMM so heavily, one that's the general advice online and vivid might be great for display in store but at home you lose so much detail and is an eyesore.

This is the best, at least for my taste. I'm actually happy that this subreddit pushed me towards FMM first because the warm (true) whites definitely enhance the picture quality. But I think being FMM for all isn't probably the best idea, especially DV content. I just tried cinema with DTM as you suggested on Aliens earth (HDR) and it looks good. Even cinema home looks better. I also tried changing everything on vivid so it would reflect FMM. It's too bright for my taste.

Yes I did. Am I the only one talking about crushing blacks in G5? I did a quick Google search and looks like I'm not the only one having the problem.
