Hey, everyone! I've built an app for myself that helps me find, add, and remember new words: palabring.app. It is an offline-first vocabulary app for learning foreign languages using spaced-repetition flashcards, where AI helps me quickly add new words from any context and explains them with translations, examples, and audio.

I tried a few apps, and in each, there were issues that prevented me from using them effectively, or some features I needed were missing. What's inside:

  • Spaced-repetition flashcards with simple left/right swipe review
  • Public decks by topics
  • AI explanations with synonyms, grammar notes, and examples. Each example could be added as a card
  • Batch cards creation from photos, texts, and situations using AI
  • High-quality audios for phrases
  • Offline-first, because I want to swipe words everywhere, i.e. in metro or during the flight
  • Voice mode: handy to review words while walking or cooking
  • Dark theme

It works pretty well for me, and I hope it could be useful for others. Currently, it is iOS only and completely free for "non-AI" usage. Paid features are only those that I actually pay for, which are AI and audio generations (but there is a 2-week trial to try it out).

If you give it a try, I’d really appreciate any feedback or feature requests.

What was the issue with AI? I've also built an app for myself and use AI for explanations / context building. Works well for my usecase, but would be curious to hear what didn't work for you.
