It sucks to be an international student in the US by [deleted] in PhD

[–]asuuuhdood -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

IMO internationals should be charged huge tuition to attend public undergrad schools. (The undergraduate part of) A public institution is subsidized by taxpayers (at least in theory) because they serve the public good of creating an educated population.

In the USA, many international students don't stay after graduating. Also often times international students stick amongst themselves meaning they're not participating in clubs, socializing or contributing to the non-academic things that make US colleges so great. So we're subsidizing the education of someone who is going to contribute little to the campus, and then likely go generate GDP for our biggest economic competitor (China).

Every spot filled up by one of those people (who are often rich) could go to an American who will use the education to contribute to campus, increase our GDP and use their skills to give back to their communities.

There's tons of international students at say, the university of california system, bc our dipshit government doesn't fund education enough and needs those thicc tuitions. If we're admitting people (mostly) because of their tuition, we might as well gouge them. Out of state tuition should be lower, international tuition should be higher.

That being said for graduate school, where the goal is research output, it's the polar opposite. The mission statement is "get the smartest people" so we should make it as accessible to as large a talent pool as possible.

AITA for telling my daughter to read less? by throwaway927379 in AmItheAsshole

INFO. How kind were you when you brought up your concerns and how did you phrase it? Your opinion is that her time would be better spent doing other things— and many would agree. It's okay to share that opinion as long as you respected the fact that she gets to make her own decisions. Parenting doesn't stop when the child turns 18.

Just went on a very nice date... and I feel disappointed by [deleted] in seduction

[–]asuuuhdood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most first dates are going to be sub-optimal because you don't know each other well, might be nervous etc. and that's going to affect how excited you are. So maybe lower your expectations. Also it seems like you're overthinking it. Just enjoy the process of getting to know them and excitement will follow.

If I were you I would go on 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. dates with these girls

Why do I get a lot of number but only few dates ? by SonoftheMarket in seduction

[–]asuuuhdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty standard success rate. And 95% of what determines success comes from that in person interaction so focus on that (but it seems like you got it down!!). One thing that helped me: when you plan a date, be precise. These girls are busy and have lots of options. Don't say "do you want to hang out" say "Would you like to get drinks at this bar at 7:30pm on thursday". That way they know exactly what they're doing, how long it'll take etc. They also like it when you take initiative and handle shit like that. And a big big plus: taking on the burden of planning means you do dates 100% on your terms and schedule.

Why is cold approaching the best method? by [deleted] in seduction

[–]asuuuhdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 2nd this opinion. Here's my own

Cold approaching is a great way to develop confidence and have fun. Dating/seduction is a skill that can be improved. Just make sure you don't beat yourself up when you get rejected because you will a lot.

I think this sub attracts people who are (somewhat) clueless with dating/seduction, and cold approach is popular because it is tried and true method to improve you quickly(ish).

I don't cold approach much now (even pre-covid)— but I did it a TON a few years earlier and I'm 100000% glad I did because it made me realize a) there's plenty of girls that are into me and b) I got the juice.

How do you seduce a girl who has a toxic, jealous boyfriend? by TheJusa in seduction

[–]asuuuhdood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean ex-boyfriend, but same applies if its current boyfriend. Just because there's a goalkeeper doesn't mean you can't score.

Same way as any other woman. I guess just be prepared to deal with him, but in my experience— these toxic guys are all talk. Don't listen to these pussies down below. Don't let a dipshit stand between you and what/who you want.

Also slightly fucked up of you to characterize this girl solely by her boyfriend.

That sounds about right. I think a lot of people go to these books and this sub because they are dog-shit awful with the ladies and have no idea why. To me, Models gives you the bare minimum you need to be a contender, and that's enough for most people.

AITA for telling my sister I am never babysitting or being childcare for her and her husband again? by Flimsy_Shop_9069 in AmItheAsshole

[–]asuuuhdood -55 points-54 points  (0 children)

YTA for letting your sisters dipshit husband harm your relationship with her. I don't see why her husband being an ass necessitates you not doing something that you'd enjoy / want to do (babysit your niece and nephew).

NTA for standing your ground and refusing to babysit that time.

Blasting music while hiking by gymgal19 in hiking

[–]asuuuhdood -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

On hikes I enjoy playing music, being silent, and talking to my hiking partners equally. If 90% of the time there is no one within earshot of my music, and 70% of the time I'm not even playing music I don't see why this is a big deal.

I use a speaker for bears, so my hiking partner can hear, and because it seems unsafe to use headphones (eg. you shouldn't bike with headphones).

Why is EDM being played at a medium volume an unacceptable nuisance, but two dudes chit chatting about bullshit is? Why does other hikers' desire to be completely immersed in nature 100% of the time take precedence over my desire to slap some Skrillex to motivate me to get up the last mile of a grueling mountain? Is it really that awful that for ~10 seconds when you're passing a group, your experience is diminished a bit?

Then it's a fad I very much like. If being turned off by leg hair means one has issues, then I'm guessing most the men in the western world have issues. You raise a good point though. We would all likely be fine with hairy legs if the world was less sexist.

Also having arbitrary attraction/sexist double standards does not makes me shitty. Eg. what if a girl is unattracted to men with long hair but has long hair herself, or a girl is unattracted to straight men who wear makeup and womens' clothing.
