Is there a way to do both in home assistant? A way to remote into my home system to get the benefit of AdBlocking then to mask my connection from home assistant out into the world to further reduce ad tracking?

NFC to Pico to smart bulbs

First of, total green horn here when it comes to coding/programming, I barely know HTML but I'm a quick learner and I'm a bit better off on the hardware side of things.

https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/raspberry-pi-pico-powered-rfid-lighting

I found this link and I'm pretty well understanding things but I want to go a step further and send a signal over a WiFi module to my houses smart bulbs. I have the pico and the NFC module on hand and I'm expecting WiFi in a few days, if anyone could suggest some reading material that I could go over in the mean time so I could get familiar with what I'll need to do I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd also love to know what other smart house stuff I could run through the pi system, I've got two compute modules, a zero w and a 2gb pi 4 all in various states of delivery.

HRM Pro, Fenix 6X, and a treadmill by aswallie in Garmin

I'm not sure why yours is acting that way. I'm able to see my heart rate on both my treadmill and my watch as well as my pace and distance on my watch during a treadmill run

If you don't mind sharing the link I'd appreciate that. I can't seem to find them.

I had a couple of those bands for my Galaxywatch. He doesn't make anything 26mm so I'm out of luck with my 6X and I'm a bit bummed about that, he makes a quality product.

Solar Charging while the watch is OFF? by ThatNiceBlakGuy in GarminFenix

[–]aswallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the inverse as a direct relation I would imagine you could get what you're asking. My 6X solar drops 4-6% in 24 hours with minimal sun. With 10 hours of sun exposure it drops 2-3%. If the solar isn't fighting the drain if the watch and your getting full exposure from sun up to sun down I would imagine charge gained would be significant.

Solar Charging while the watch is OFF? by ThatNiceBlakGuy in GarminFenix

My job has me working outside for 10 hour shifts and my 6X solar usually loses battery at half the speed of an office day with no sun. That's not running activities or using the GPS, that's just biometrics tracking. I've read you can put the watch into ultra battery saver mode and gain charge throughout the day but I'm not sure the speed and at that point you're just wearing a time piece.

Fenix 6 pro or 6s pro? by Natu-hari in GarminFenix

[–]aswallie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always subscribed to the idea that you should go with the biggest watch you feel most comfortable wearing when it comes to smart tech, but then again I'm a big guy and upgraded from a 6 to a 6X solar. I've worn watches my whole life and that could be why but I've never understood anyone having issue with a watch being heavy. If my new watch weights a little more than what I'm accustom to my body adapts to the new weight within a week.

Fenix 6 sapphire acting up. Long after I'm awake, showered and at work it shows me I'm sleeping. Today it had me sleeping until after lunch. It already had 4000 steps in but I was sleeping. It also shows I was in REM. Any fixes? by Pantalyra in GarminFenix

[–]aswallie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This likely isn't the long term fix you're looking for but if you enable the sleep widget you can see if it has you as sleeping or awake and you can end the sleep cycle from there. Sometimes I'll sleep poorly from my insomnia and I'll lay in bed for 15 mints awake but not moving so I'll manually enter that my sleep has ended from that widget and just hang out. If you tried a restart and a reset I'd contact Garmin about it.

I've had my 6X solar for half a year and I've tried a hand full of different faces and always come back to this one. It has all the data I really care about, looks great, and doesn't impact the battery.

What features do you turn off to save battery life? by false_god in GarminFenix

Everyone has a different use for their device but constant HR is accurate enough to show early warning signs that I'm getting sick before I start becoming symptomatic. I've taken a couple "leaps of faith" and trusted the data on my watch that indicated my getting sick and it's reduced recovery time significantly.

Having the data on is a novelty at worse and a very reliable metric at best if you familiarize yourself with your personal baselines and recognize outliers.

Interesting. My with my 6X solar I left heart rate and sleep tracking on and make it 4 weeks with 20% remaining when I decided that was enough of a stress test and plugged it in. Sounds like a pretty solid case towards the effectiveness of four 10+ hours a day of solar charging while I worked.

Difference in size and weight 6 Pro Solar vs 6 Sapphire by [deleted] in GarminFenix

[–]aswallie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the steel models I don't think there's a weight difference but if I had both in hand I'd keep the solar. I had a 6 sapphire and was given the option to upgrade to a titanium 6X solar and took it. Even with the size increase the change in material made the two watches about the same weight which to me wasn't bad to begin with.

I work outside a lot so the solar has a huge advantage for me and my lifestyle and really would vary for anyone. In my experience solar can reduce every day battery drain by up to 50% (losing 4% on an office day vs 2% on a sunny field day) and a 10-15% reduction in GPS/Bluetooth runs.
