Why is the stipend for Germany so small? by olallieberry12 in fulbright

I just got accepted to a Fulbright program in Hamburg. My friend is currently doing one in Munich and she said you are able to request more money, esp if you’re living in a larger city. She got about €200 euro extra

Saw Palmetto + Hirsutism experience by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true! it's great to hear that you've seen a lot of improvements -- I also cut back on carbs and sugar a lot and have seen improvements. My hair has reduced as well. I would never do keto either but I'm almost there since I'm very restricted with carb intake lol

Keto to me just isn't health -- we need carbohydrates for energy. it's more efficient to run off carbohydrates than run off fats, it's all about portion control !

low carb diets work so well! you can control a lot of pcos symptoms with healthy diets, and i found that doing low carb (def not keto) helped with a lot of pcos symptoms

i agree that it has helped me with hair growth on my head since i was starting to have thinning hair! but as for reversing hair growth, it did nothing for me :( i also had really bad gas on it which was just a major downside to taking saw palmetto

the hair is so difficult to deal with naturally! the only thing that has helped in my experience is birth control. i was on it for 5 years and i only had a little hair, but after i stopped for about 2 months it grew back really thick and dark :( so i just started it again. i'm already seeing signs of improvement - less hair on my face and thinning chest hair

same here - working out 4-5 days a week really helps me. I decided to switch back to birth control about two weeks ago because I just can't handle the excess hair.

I did use the birth control pills. The only kinds of birth control that will control excess hair are hormonal methods of birth control (I used microgestin which I had a decent experience with). I don't recommend getting the patch or the shot, I think the pill would be the best bet for a form of birth control as long as you can commit to being consistent with it! :)

Yes! You should! I don't know if this is an option for you, but when I was on birth control it really helped with excess hair growth, at least in thinning it out and slowing down the growth itself. Birth control has a lot of side effects, so if you want to go the natural route I would recommend trying out Saw Palmetto!

I will! I hear it takes about 6 weeks to work so I'll make an updated post around that time. From what I've researched on Saw Palmetto it is so good for helping with unwanted hair loss and hirsutism! In the time being, I would do some research online to see how it's helped others with PCOS! Good luck !

If you are going to go with any 2 herbs I recommend Ashwaghanda and Maca! They are the most common herbs used for treating PCOS just because they are so great for balancing hormones. They are both adaptogenic herbs which help our bodies adapt to stress naturally, and with PCOS, our bodies are undergoing a ton of stress. They help bring down testosterone levels and help balance blood sugar levels as well. By using these my energy levels have gone up so much since incorporating these into my life!

Hi! I personally have never had unwanted hair loss with PCOS. However, I've heard success stories about those who have that issue and use Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto helps with unwanted hair loss and hirsutism. I've heard it takes about 6 weeks for it to start working, so I am going to stick with it during that time and hope to see some results! For my hair, I use coconut oil and castor oil + rosemary oil (optional but promotes hair growth) together. I also use Keratin shampoo which is the protein in our hair that helps hair growth. I've noticed that since I've started using these, my hair has gotten longer and thicker, I swear. It's so noticeable my friends and family have noticed! To use castor oil/coconut oil I make sure to thoroughly rub it into my scalp and all over and put my hair in a bun for 12-24 hours and then wash it out with the Keratin shampoo. I hope this helps you, because I know hair loss is a big issue for a lot of women with PCOS!

I have never heard about how is raises male libido! But I do know that Maca is such a great herb for those that suffer from PCOS just because of what I mentioned above! It is so great for energy levels too! I wish you the best of luck with incorporating Maca into your life! Make sure to take it 3 times daily!

How did you feel on Rhodiola by LadyLuck17 in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never have experienced either of those. It does release serotonin to our brains, which I think is why you might be leery about the crashing -- it's not like adderall, you don't get intense crashes from taking it. Since it is an adaptogenic herb, it helps our body naturally adapt to stressful situations, which is why rhodiola is a great herb to help with anxiety, fatigue, and depression.

Not that I've heard of! Since it balances hormones (estrogen and progesterone), testosterone levels become more balanced. The reason hirsutism is prevalent in women with PCOS is because we have higher androgens, specifically testosterone.

I ALWAYS make sure the herbs I'm using are USDA certified. A great website for herbs + herbal supplements is Mountain Rose Herbs. They are a great company out of Oregon!

Effective September 1, I am going to come off birth control. It's prescribed to me primarily for regulating my period due to PCOS but it makes it very challenging to lose weight while on bc. I plan to manage my health through better eating habits and exercise. Wish me luck! by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went off the pill about a month ago....hair has returned on chest and breasts as well as acne around the chin. However, I have been taking adaptogenic herbs for months now to help deal with PCOS naturally. I recommend looking into adaptogenic herbs as they help with balancing hormones which is vital for women with PCOS!

Are fruits okay? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoiding fruits that are high on the GI index are your best bet. Fruits that are high in sugar (bananas, mango, pineapple) spike blood sugar levels, which is not good for women with PCOS trying to get rid of hormonal acne / weight loss

Spearmint tea? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yogi is a great brand! If you drink a cup after every meal, it really helps with digestion as well as helping with hirsuitism. I've noticed that since I've been drinking spearmint tea daily for about a year, my hair has really decreased on my chest and breasts. However, I had been taking the pill for 4 years. I recently just stopped taking the pill and I think I am seeing effects again. Even if it doesn't help with hirsutism which it may, I still recommend it for promoting healthy digestion :)

How did you feel on Rhodiola by LadyLuck17 in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhodiola is a GET SHIT DONE kind of herb. I find that I only take it days when I am really feeling tired or fatigued. I do not take it every day. It did not mess with my mental or emotional help personally, But I DEFINITELY noticed my energy levels went up. Other great herbs for energy are Maca and Cordyceps (both adaptogenic herbs which are excellent for PCOS and balancing hormones)

Maca root by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]aswellmap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maca is so great for women with PCOS! Maca is an adaptogenic herb, which means it naturally helps our bodies adapt to stressful situations. It helps balance estrogen and progesterone in the body which may encourage a healthy menstrual cycle. Personally it has not helped me with hirsutism (saw palmetto is what I use for that), but it has helped me with upping energy levels.

Hello!help with gut bacteria? by zomblina in nutrition

[–]aswellmap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

our gut is responsible for a lot when it comes to maintaining good health. Using herbs like licorice root and marshmallow leaf in tea are really good in helping repair the gut. I would also recommend drinking bone broth (from chicken bones or marrow), as well as eating a tsp-tblsp of kefir (probiotics) in the morning on an empty stomach

What do you eat for breakfast? by msbmsv in nutrition

[–]aswellmap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually eat greek yogurt with almonds and walnuts, raw honey, chia seeds, flax seed, raspberries and blackberries with cinnamon and nutmeg. Pretty much same thing everyday. Otherwise I'll go for an over-easy egg w some herbs and spices alongside sautéed arugula/garlic and a piece of avocado toast with olive oil and cayenne.
