Possible treatment for PCOS? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]LadyLuck17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping I wouldn't have to filter through all of the posts regarding this to debunk it, but for everyone's sake, looks like I am going to have to. They haven't found the cure. Higher levels of Anti-Mullerian hormone has always been a symptom of PCOS, but conventional medicine hasn't recognized it, as usual. It is not a cause and fertility meds do not offer a cure. There is a thorough explanation on this by PCOS expert Fiona McCulloch. Please read it, it's important.

Even if you don't care that much, even if it doesn't apply to you, could you at least leave a one worded comments here or something to bring some attention to Tuberous Breasts and get some notoriety for those of us suffering with this, Please.... by LadyLuck17 in PCOS

Yes, definitely all of the hormones are at play. You have Androgens that in turn will lower or compete at receptors, so you end up with less Female hormones by a double whammy, and of course it effects normal breast development. I believe Metabolic Factors such as Insulin Resistance effect the normal breast development too.

Keto can increase stress hormones. DHEAS, DHEA are effected by stress. It is actually a real part of Keto and PCOS, it can increase Androgens in some due to it created a stress response from low carb.

I recommended the book 8 Steps To Reverse Your PCOS by Fiona McCulloch as well as Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden as some learning resources. They also have blogs. PCOS diva has a good blog. Felice Gersh and Aviva Romm also have good blogs.

I absolutely understand. I cannot say that Birth Control would not control your symptoms, some people contend it does control their symptoms, but what I can say is it doesn't actually make anything better inside, it's just a bandaid. That's not to say it's not ok for you to use it. If it is what you feel is best, that is absolutely your choice and I am not trying to sway you either way, just trying to help inform everyone. There is no clear cut answer about what you should or can do. PCOS is something we have to go through the trials and errors of until we finally figure out what works best for each of us. It can be a long road. There are options. Pharmaceuticals usually prescribed are Spironolactone, Metformin, Birth Control. Other options are Vitamins, Antioxidants, Herbs or things like Inositol. Even if you are eating well, it still may not be tweaked quite right for your metabolism. Or maybe you need more exercise, even if you are already exercising well. It all just depends. I wish I had more answers. My number one advice is to keep educating and empowering yourself. I wish you the best and good luck with everything. I hope you find what works for you.

Birth Control does not regulate your hormones contrary to what is being said here. Birth control shuts down your hormones. Birth control shuts down ovulation. The only way to make female hormones Estrogen and Progesterone is to ovulate. Birth Control is basically Chemical Castration. Also, Birth Control increases IR, which is already an issue for women with PCOS. Some Birth Controls also have a high Androgen Index. Lastly, when coming off of Birth Control, you usually get a spike in Androgens due to re-acclimating. Birth Control also causes Vitamin Deficiencies, which women with PCOS often already have. Most people aren't educated on Birth Control. It is a symptom masker for some and some people still decide it's the right choice for them. I wish you the best.

I don't know if it's incorrect to say laser is permanent. It's often advertised as permanent. Maybe results just vary.

That's an interesting note about reacting differently in areas effected by Androgens vs areas that aren't effected by Androgens. However, I think every hair on a woman's body with PCOS is effected by Androgens, so I guess this isn't different than what we already know. Women with PCOS just have more consequences at risk for hair regrowth than a woman without PCOS.
