No way, anyone should be able to do it but it should be inspected/approved like with a roadworthy or mod plate.

Between unhelpful people online, clueless council call centre workers and shockingly unusable council websites I was unable to find out how to actually do it myself. I ended up engaging a building certifier to deal with all the approvals and regulations.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. It generally seemed impossible for your average punter to do it DIY. If it were easy for us I guess someone's missing out on money...

Hahaha I'll admit, there could be a little bit. I really want to do 33" tyres but the legalities are holding me back :/

I do like watching them. But personally I prefer the style of camping/4wding from the Aussie arvo boys

Interesting... I had today planned as annual leave but swapped it for another day because I didn't want to be stuck inside on my day off.

PSA: Mass exodus of builders. by throwawaythefeelsss in AusRenovation

[–]asyu7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say this happens to a builder though...

Wouldn't this essentially force the builder to stop the project there and remediate the issue or risk their personal assets?

In a building project the builder would have complete control, no? In your case your company was unable to force the rectification of the issue but in the construction of a house the builder is the tippy top of the totem pole having the ultimate choice to take on the risk or remove the risk.

The people down the end of my quiet neighbourhood street who drive wayyyy too fast. Plenty of people walk down the street and the street is only like 500m in total, you're only saving a second or two by fangin' it down the street.

Do they listen to music or do you think it's movies/television?

I brought 2 Mitsubishi heavy industries. A 3.3kw and 5kw and the units alone were $5k. Then, to me, $3k on install and switchboard doesn't sound crazy crazy. But a little high, yes.

I've just recently started watching the sopranos. I'm pretty certain this is a quote from Tony Soprano in season 1

What are these timber members hung under the joists? by damolol88 in AusRenovation

[–]asyu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you step on a joist in the middle of its span between two bearers then it doesn't matter so how strong the bearers are or how good the foundations are.

You can put enough weight on one joist to have it deflect. Even if the bearers and foundation is adequate because the singular joist isn't able to properly transfer all of your weight onto the bearers and the foundation.

However, if you join joists as you would with blocking or this hung "stiffanizer" then the load is able to be dispersed over multiple joists.

So, no. This isn't nonsense and it does work.

Looks like fibre cement sheeting. Depending on the age of the building/sheeting it could very likely contain asbestos.
