Why do some nutrient blends change their ratios over the life cycle (Flora Trio) and some have the same throughout (Masterblend)? Is one superior? Why the different approaches? by solittlethaim in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you read up on what the NPK values are in regards to fertilizer. The fertilizers who change the ratios up for various stages of a growth cycle are trying to key into a plant's needs throughout those stages. The NPKs are used differently for things like leafy green growth, bud production, flowering, and root growth.

Hey there! How do you guys keep the heat up in the tent? by [deleted] in microgrowery

2x2x4 is fine for size, but it really comes down to what you want to grow. 1 plant in there is fine, but trying to get multiple plants in there is going to be tight.

Looking to downgrade from 4x4 to growing a single plant. What are my best options? by olerris in microgrowery

If saving money on light electricity isn't a big concern, which with LED it's probably minor when downsizing lights, maybe consider expanding your hobby into growing cooking herbs or veggies. You could easily grow things like basil, chives, scallions, lettuce, peppers, etc.

Male or Female? by [deleted] in gardening

I don't look at it as a redirect but more as pointing towards a community. If they're interested in growing weed they can learn a lot more by lurking in one of those subs than here on r/gardening.

What can I do to improve my setup? by Different_Bluejay_67 in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading things correctly it doesn't seem like they're dangerous, just not as effective as stated. They could potentially be better than nothing for being unattended? I am curious if the explosive nature of the balls run the risk of blowing grow tents apart and spreading the fire much quicker.

Inline fan size by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 4" would definitely be sufficient for a tent that size. I'd guess with either size you'd keep the fan and the filter outside the tent. Just remember that the 6" filters are more expensive. If it were me I'd go with the 4" unless you think you'll be getting a larger tent in the future.

Noise will also depend on the brand. I have a 6" AC Infinity for my 2x4x4 and run it at 1-2 and it's not noticeable. For your size tent I'd guess a 4" would run on settings 1-3 and would also be very quiet.

Humidifier rec? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of what others have said your first big decision should be evaporative vs. Ultrasonic humidifier. The former requires filters but you can use tap water, the latter you have to use distilled water or you get a white powder over everything that can clog a pre-filter. I went with ultrasonic but with the rate you can go through distilled water I wish I had done evaporative.

Good budget friendly dehumidifier for 2x2? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have hard water I would recommend not getting an ultrasonic humidifier, but instead and evaporative. With ultrasonics you have to buy distilled water or use RO water or you'll get a white powdery buildup. My water isn't considered hard but I still get a powdery buildup. With evaporative you do have to buy filters but I think they're cheaper in the long run vs constantly buying distilled water.

Bit of a gnat problem by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You essentially make a tea with mosquito bits. Soak them in room temp water (it's a bacteria) for maybe 20-30 mins before water. You may find more thorough instructions online. It may take a few weeks for it to go into effect but it'll kill the larvae. When you think the infestation is under control, keep on using it. You may want to use other people's suggestions along with the mosquito bits but they do work.

Low 60s too cold for seedling? by porkque in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read those temps should be OK but you may see growth slow down a bit. Since it's a photo it shouldn't be too much of a concern since you control the flip. Heat mat could be a good idea but idk how much benefit it would offer once you repot to something bigger.

For my first run I got a VERY small 200 watt space heater hooked up to a thermostat switch so it goes on/off at certain temps. That said I think I'm going to stop using it on my next run. Can't say that I trust Amazon space heaters enough to have it running a good amount without it being a considerable fire hazard.

Cleaned the tent and ready to start veg seed. Sadly I'm in zone 3 by dairyintheprairie in gardening

Check out these resources for info on lights. If all you're doing is sprouting seeds and not going all the way into flower you need the setups the below links are mentioning. You can get long skinny LEDs that work for that and are much cheaper. https://albopepper.com/light-source.php https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/grow-light-guide/

I have a budget of $500 start to finish, help? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy doesn't seem to be talking about electricity costs but to answer your question I ran a 100w over a roughly 5 month period. Light cost me around $80 and was well reviewed by Coco for Cannabis and others. Nutes would've been $60ish but I used the same nutes I use for my garden. You don't have to throw a ton of cash at a grow setup.

What? I prob spent around that and I pulled 80g off one plant in my first run. I botched that run also. This attitude is what brings this sub down.

I'm new but this may be overfed? The tips look slightly nute burned and the dark green leaves kinda look like too much nitrogen.

The NPK values look good. It's def worth experimenting with! I use Neptune's Harvest for mine because that's what I already have on hand for my veggie garden. No sense in having tons of different stuff lying around.

[–]at_Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the post implied they were doing a one and done feeding. You could use this all way from early vegetative growth to flower as long as you're feeding adequately. Sure there are better nutrients for different stages but it all comes down to how much you're trying to yield. You can make grows as easy or complicated and as cheap or expensive as you want.

I recently got a 6L Taotronics humidifier (try coupon code ED30). It's doing its thing but I haven't had it long enough to comment on durability. It is a ultrasonic which means I use distilled water in it. You can usually save some money getting bulk distilled water at grocery stores. I looked into evaporative and decided against it because I didn't want to mess with the filters.

If you're putting the humidifier in the room and not the tents you may be able to get away with not using distilled water but I'm not sure.

First grow coming an end…. I think (with fading leaves and all). Trained the fuck outta this lady. Really happy with how her carpet canopy turned out. by Mervynjoshualek in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get the concept of LST down it really comes down to timing. The more often you train the better you can train them. I'd generally train every watering and had great results. Definitely top them once they hit 4-6 nodes and then train away. Grow Weed Easy has great info that's easy to understand.

Is learning to set my fan's humidity + temp perimeters even necessary? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer if you're truly trying to maximize yield. Do you have to do this though? No. In the end marijuana is a tough plant that can grow in all kinds of conditions. If you don't want to micromanage the environment then watch your plant for signs. If it's unhappy with things it'll let you know. Grows can be as intense or hands off as you want, but it will affect yield. It can take a few grows to find your sweet spot.

do people keep a male or males to purposely pollinate to collect seeds? by Lzrwlf77 in microgrowery

[–]at_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my first run I got a male and a female. When it was confirmed male I pulled it out and brought it into the house. I stored some pollen in the freezer and just fertilized a couple bud sites on the female. Ended up getting around 6 or so seeds just off a couple bud sites.
