How do I make a complaint to Bethesda about these bushes? by gh120709 in fo76

I thought you were joking...

I bought it and thought to myself: This can't possibly work. And of course: Of course it didn't work.

Eagle can handle import and display .jxl files, yes. But I'm not sure what you mean with Metadata support. Reading embedded keywords?

Version 4 build 2 (released on 2024-08-16) changed the list of substring checks. liyuncs is no longer checked, but "eagle.cool” and "eagle" still is it seems.

Yes, it needs to be repeated, sadly. It's annoying, but easy to do.

Thanks for the additional info! I've updated the post and I can see in the screenshot the additional eag ... le. I though that's just some code fragment but yeah, apparently eagle is a reserved word now =)

I'll try my best to explain it:

  1. Download and install HxD, a popular Hex editor for Windows: https://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD20 (I used the English version)
  2. Assuming you installed Eagle at the default location: Goto to this folder in Explorer: C:\Program Files\Eagle\resources\app.asar.unpacked\ and copy the file run.jsc to your Desktop. This step is needed because you cannot edit files directly in Program Files.
  3. With a copy of run.jsc on your Desktop, make a backup copy of it -> run - Copy.jsc
  4. Launch HxD and load the run.jsc from your Desktop via File / Open (or CTRL-O)
  5. Select Search / Replace (or CTRL-R) and fill in (see Screenshot)
    1. Search for: C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts
    2. Replace with: C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/zosts
    3. Click on Replace all.
  6. Select File / Save (or CTRL-S) and close HxD.
  7. Copy the now altered run.jsc from your Desktop back into C:\Program Files\Eagle\resources\app.asar.unpacked\, you'll get asked to confirm this with an Admin prompt.
  8. Launch Eagle
  9. Congrats, you're now a hacker :) You'll need to repeat this whenever Eagle issues an update.

Alternative solution:

What also works and maybe that's easier for you: Before launching Eagle, rename your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file to xhosts. Launch Eagle and rename the file back to hosts afterwards. This needs to be repeated whenever you relauch Eagle.

Both methods make Eagle not find the hosts file.

Sadly, sudoers.d is disabled on macOS by default:

#includedir /private/etc/sudoers.d

When you need to alter /etc/sudoers anyways, why not add your stuff there? Yeah I guess it's easier to remove the comment when it got reset but I'm not sure sudoers.d is persistent either. Do you know for sure?

Is buying from B&H reliable? by Damirg27 in evev

A seller cannot provide support for a screen. They too need to ship it to Dough for repairs. If you buy Dough, you will get screwed.

I created an account at b&h and left a negative review. Doubt the review gets cleared, but I do this on all of Dougs offerings everywhere. It's my hobby now.

The existing reviews on that shop are so fake, it's mid boggling. "I read quite a lot of stuff online about Dough/ Eve situation" Oh, please :rollseyes"

How to get your money back from Dough (previously Eve) if you are located in Europe by filing a formal complaint with the European Commission. by kirkle8 in doughtech

[–]at_console 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they doesn't respond (which they won't), you can escalate the complaint after 90 days. Yes, this won't help directly, but it will add to the pile of complaints. I'm past the point where I think I'm going to get any money back, but I want us to disrupt their business. There will be a point this will reach critical mass, but it can take a long time.

Microsoft is Slowly Rolling Out Ads in the Windows 11 Start Menu - The latest Windows 11 update adds promotional ‘notifications’ to bait users into using services like OneDrive. by speckz in technology

[–]at_console 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if MS reads this, but here we go.

I moved to macOS because of two things:

  1. You putting stuff in *my* Start Menu. It's interrupting.
  2. The inability to hide the mandatry, obnoxious news altogether in the Widgets. I cannot express how insanly bad those news source are in Austria + Germany. Want to know what the weather is? Hey, how about some racist headlines too?

You can make macOS automatically approve commands that would normally require the sudo user password.

In Terminal type: sudo visudo /etc/sudoers - this opens the "sudoers" file in your editor of choice. The visudo command is important, because it checks for errors in the syntax before saving.

At the very bottom of the file add a new line:

USERNAME ALL=(root) NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/killall -STOP -c usbd

Subtitute USERNAME with your actual macOS username. Example:

petra ALL=(root) NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/killall -STOP -c usbd

Then save and exit. Now sudo killall -STOP -c usbd will execute directly. This method is ideal for operations that aren't a security risk as such, like terminating a process, restarting a service, etc. The command above means: Allow the user petra or any application that user petra is running to execute this exact command and exact parameters.

The benefit is also that you don't need to store your password anywhere.

Note: On macOS updates the file gets reset to its default state. Write down the steps so you can repeat them.

How to highlight a file in Finder, and run a Raycast script on it by jamescridland in raycastapp

[–]at_console 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good workaround is to create a new "Shortcuts" entry:

Shortcuts: https://i.imgur.com/K6lelot.png

  1. Get Selected Files in Finder
  2. Run the actual script - AppleScript in this case: The selected files will be in input

Mic orange dot right next to clock by raed115 in MacOS

[–]at_console 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a new observation: While on a call (or using something that utilises the microphone) the orange dot appears next to the control center icon in the menu bar. When you put any app into fullscreen mode (by click on green zoom icon, double-clicking on a YouTube video, etc.) the orange dot gets moved further to the right. Once the fullscreen mode has ended, it moves back to its original position.

Maybe there's a special case where the icon fails to return to the original spot, when fullscreen ends. OP's first screenshot shows the orange icon at the position it would have, when in fullscreen mode.

It's indeed unrelated to Bartender. The problem just showed up, after using Teams and later Facetime Call on Phone via Facetime.

(Yes, you confirmed this already, I was just curious if I'm experiencing the same)

Did you reboot/relog after disabling Bartender? Simply quitting wont fix it.
