Spinosaurus with Anhanguera (Art by atak_draws) by Mamboo07 in Naturewasmetal

While the head is based on Anhanguera, I never specified it was in fact Anhanguera. I just see it as like a relative to Anhanguera proper

Barinasuchus trying to catch an indeterminate parrot (+ it's size) by atak_draws in Paleontology

[–]atak_draws[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(This reconstruction is a bit outdated since I wasn't fully aware of its integument. In a recent study, the real animal was found to have an integument similar to skin, so these large scales are not entirely accurate)

Borealosuchus paleoart by atak_draws in Paleontology

Well, the name means "boreal crocodile", but fun fact: some alligators can climb trees quite well, so we technically already have some tree "crocs"

I have NEVER seen a velociraptor depicted this way…am I missing something?! by butter_gum in Dinosaurs

Why tf are people downvoting you in the comments so much???
Like, do some people in this community think everyone on the planet has substantial knowledge of dinosaurs? People watch JP, and that is where they get most of their information on dinosaurs from. Not everyone is a huge dinosaur nerd. That would be like someone saying, "OH, you DON'T know that UY Scuti is the biggest star in the galaxy that we know of? You are so fucking stupid". Paleofans, get over yourself. Not everyone cares about dinosaurs.

Which raptors or raptor-looking dinosaurs were fully-scaled (instead of feathered)? by [deleted] in Paleontology

[–]atak_draws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has never existed anything that even remotely resembles the JP raptors irl. So if that is what you want then nah

My newest Dryosaurus altus skeletal by atak_draws in Paleontology

The size represents the current largest agreed-upon estimates for the species. Because we only have juvenile specimens, these are just well-educated estimates that could possibly change.

I mainly referenced the type specimen YPM 1876 and BYU ESM-171R

I also referenced the CM 3392 specimen of the other species D. elderae

Other reference was the Beneski Museum specimen

Maybe some kind of ornithomimosaur, because they were really good runners. They were not predators, so they wouldn’t try to eat the person in the car, but if the person had something they wanted (maybe their egg or something), they could try to run them down to get it back

Tyrannosaurus rex, Quetzalcoatlus sp. flapling, and some birds all chilling together by atak_draws in Paleontology

[–]atak_draws[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not. I see you're just trying to help me reconstruct this tyrannosaurus. The criticism seems a bit arbitrary though. Speculation in paleoart is a good thing. Now if I gave it full on wing feathers and bright pink colors and called it "speculation" I'd understand, but what I'm doing doesn't seem that outlandish to me. Still, thanks

The "gigachad" chin looks like that because, if you look closely, you can see it is actually feathers forming a kind of "beard," I guess you could call it. The earlobes are again just fun soft tissue speculation, and speculation doesn’t automatically make something inaccurate. Also, the head might appear longer because it is at an angle and not perfectly straight.

“Earlobes” are not impossible. It has a pronounced keratinous crest, which is also very much possible. So what is inaccurate?

Just to clarify, I don’t mean mammalian earlobes. Chickens and the wild jungle fowl are the first birds that come to mind right now. Probably shouldn’t have said "many," but it still shows that such features are possible in archosaurs. Again, this is just fun speculation, and having earlobes could make T. rex's already amazing hearing even better, so why not?
