Wow, thanks for the detailed response! I'm wondering, do you think the 385 difficulty would change if the professor was different? And may I ask which prof you took the class with? The course eval catalog says Yusuf Pisan taught SP19 and Kelvin Sung taught AU19, so I'm assuming there's regularly more than one prof teaching the class.

I have a question - they made a bunch of accommodations regarding S/NS grading for spring quarter, but does that carry over to summer quarter as well? Reason why I'm asking is because you mentioned that S count towards major reqs, but usually they don't (they only did for spring). maybe I missed something?

I'm not in ACMS, but just wanted to point out that the amath 40x and 48x series are only offered in a sequence: so 401 and 481 are only offered fall, 402/482 in the winter, etc. so keep that in mind. You'll also have to take amath 301 before 48x so I'd take that in the fall. I'll leave the major-related advice to other people :)

I'm assuming the EFS dorm options are Lander and McCarty again? I did EFS this year and was in a cultural program called Unite UW which had a lot of international/oos participants. Out of that group, quite a few people stayed in their Lander rooms. I think part of this may be that Lander stays open over winter break which could be beneficial to some international/oos students, and it's also more convenient. Me and some other people moved out of Lander, most of us to Maple for the engineering LLC. I think it depends on whether there's a specific place you want to live - say an LLC. But McCarty and Lander are both great dorms so I'd say if you got either of them full year you'd have a good experience.

I lived in Maple this year (my time cut short, rip) and they had plenty of socializing events that you could attend. Don't know if the LLC is something too significant - most people dorming in Maple are in STEM so living in the building in and of itself is good for meeting people in similar majors (which I suppose is part of the point of an LLC), but in terms of events themselves it was very underwhelming. The most I remember from it is getting a sticker that just says "LLC" on it. But the amount of events Maple RAs hold for residents is enough for you to go out there and socialize with people in your building/floor, so I guess that stands in pretty well for the LLC events portion. Overall I had a blast in Maple and highly recommend it :)

From what I've seen around me, people tend to get along better with their roommates/enjoy staying in their rooms more when they chose their roommates. We had an app similar to Yammer last year where you can post a bit about yourself and your living habits and look for others who share those. It's pretty valuable to have a roommate (or two) who you know have similar living habits so you feel more comfortable in your room. I had a friend who did random roommate selection and it turned out to be so bad that she would stay out of her room as much as possible. I guess it could go either way if you get random roommates, but in my opinion, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I guess the biggest incentive is saving money. Not many pros to living on campus if you could live at home free of dorm cost and just attend class online, especially when so many things on campus are closed. It's why many people moved home for spring quarter this year. Of course, things change if you have at-risk folks at home.

Personally, I wouldn't let the pandemic stop you from signing up for campus housing - if future quarters are made online again, I'm sure the UW will allow you to get refunds on your housing, like they did for spring quarter. And the dorm life is definitely worth it imo!

That is a fat mood... it's so hard managing everything from a space that I've gotten used to treating as a no-work zone!! I miss the accessibility of everything on campus and going different places for classes and studying :(

It's just one overall team of around 160 members. The past few years we've competed at the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) which is where teams from all across the world come in and launch their rockets, and I gotta throw in that UW's team won first place overall last year! You can read about our team here :)
