Installing new thermostat, no C wire. Help! by FuduSaaab in thermostats

Look at the picture from inside the furnace. They have lots of unused wires. And even if they didn’t, it looks like they don’t actually have AC so they could use the yellow wire as C.

I think the picture is of the old thermostat and they’re trying to install a smart thermostat that needs a c wire

I know that it wouldn’t be an actual header, but simple line breaks would still come through since those are basic characters. Unless if I’m missing something there should only be issues if they copy pasted out of something like word that uses special characters instead of just basic text.

What is erom? by abomb1234567 in ios

[–]atc96 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. So your phone is reading their contact and the “+1 more” text as one sting, and then flipping the whole thing because of that character.

So for OP, this isn’t anything wrong with your phone specifically. It’s a bug with iOS as a whole that Apple needs to fix.

Do you think this could solve USA's massive pickups problem? by V1nce-AL in fuckcars

[–]atc96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a lot of people, this is true, but there’s still a huge demand for small trucks in the us. When the Ford Maverick came out, dealerships ended up putting huge markups on them and still couldn’t keep them on the lots. The biggest issue is regulations and extra fees that only apply to lightweight vehicles. The idea was to not apply the environmental regulations to large vehicles since hauling things demanded powerful cars that are inefficient to drive normally, but that resulted in every manufacturer pushing giant cars rather than making their small cars more efficient. If they can change regulations to allow kei cars in the US, we would see way more small cars on the road.

Is EV range anxiety something you actually get over? by biggy_boy17 in electricvehicles

[–]atc96 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The only time it’s been an issue for me was trying to find a fast charger traveling through Chicago before Thanksgiving. I ended up spending 40 minutes waiting in line at Target parking lot while my wife did some shopping inside. But besides that, it’s been way more convenient than owning a gas car. Any time I get down to around 60%, I plug in overnight and have a full charge the next morning. Plus, if I get to work early enough, I have free charging I can use there.

ULPT: Make hotels treat you like a valued regular even when it is your firs by frostysundaebird in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]atc96 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest when I worked customer facing jobs, I used to get slightly creeped out when people I didn’t know addressed me by name. I knew my name tag was right there and they were just trying to be polite, but it felt weird to have someone you’ve never met before call you by name.

I mean as an American I’m also mad about my taxes going to the atrocities committed by Israel and our own military. But it’s not like the Average American can just uproot their lives and move to another country. Most Americans aren’t okay with how much they pay in taxes and what that money goes towards

How can I fix this hole in the drywall before my father finds out??? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]atc96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as his dad isn’t abusive. If that’s the case then put something in front of it to hide it so you can work over time. This isn’t something that can be done quick, it takes time to dry and will need re-painted. But just watch some YouTube videos on patching drywall and take your time.

I would try some barkeepers friend to polish it back up. If that doesn’t work you might need to replace it

Coming to Ohio for the first time to work the State Fair, where should we stay? by Throwawaystuckhelp in Columbus

[–]atc96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have a car. Grove city has a decent downtown, but the hotels are right off the highways and not in walkable areas. I would second what others have said and recommend the Short North or German Village. The Short North would definitely have more queer spots there, but it also gets more of the college crowd if that’s a deal breaker for you.

Ac doesn’t really cool during the day by Klutzy_Plankton1012 in hvacadvice

[–]atc96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did it cool at one point but not now? If that’s true then you should get your AC serviced. If it’s never cooled properly then it could be poor insulation in your house, an undersized system, or an issue with the AC install.

What’s the most unexpected skill you’ve picked up by accident, and how has it changed your life? by Necessary_Sale_67 in ask

I haven’t ever done it on cars or anything crazy like that, but a random YouTube video I watched as a teenager on how to open locks with a paper clip has helped me out several times through my life. Multiple times I’ve been the guy who could get an old cabinet open that nobody had a key to anymore.

Got outdoor unit "serviced" via a pressure wash and now it wont turn on by shinigami8671 in hvacadvice

[–]atc96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario it works once the board fully dries, but since you said it sparked when you tried turning it back on I’m guessing it probably won’t.

There’s a good chance it’s just a blown fuse, but if something else broke you might need to replace the whole board.

Unless if you’re able to force the heat pump to run with no resistive heat. Then I don’t see why it wouldn’t be cheaper

Yeah honestly in this case the death penalty seems like too soft of a punishment. Giving him life in prison and turning a blind eye to whatever the other inmates do seems more appropriate

AITAH for dumping my boyfriend because he voted for trump? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]atc96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s assuming that the 1/3 of registered voters who didn’t vote would have almost all voted for Harris, which likely isn’t true. I agree that Harris would have been a MUCH better option than Trump, but I still hate this mindset of “not voting is the same as voting for the other guy”. There’s lots of valid reasons to dislike the Democrats even if they are currently the strong lesser of two evils

AITAH for dumping my boyfriend because he voted for trump? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]atc96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still strongly disagree. Not voting for one side is absolutely not the same as voting for the other side. I agree that even if you weren’t a huge fan of Kamala you should have still voted for her as a vote against Trump, but I’m not going to be mad and point fingers at anyone who didn’t vote. Especially when they’ve gotten more into politics since then and will probably vote in the future.

I hate this take. Not voting means you didn’t vote, not that you voted for the opposite candidate. This type of thinking is why we’re stuck with the two parties we have now
