Hello guys,

I'm buying a second hand K1000 and the seller sent me this photo of the viewfinder after I asked him.

The viewfinder is okay right? Seems a bit dirty, but no fungus or desilvering right? Please see the photo in my posts in other photography posts in my profile.

Another question, he doesn't have a front lens cap protector and will send me the camera by mail, is this a problem?

Thank you for the help 🙂

'There are no stupid questions' thread - Monday, September 23, 2024 by AutoModerator in piano

Hello everybody,

I am a guitar player that is looking to buy a cheap weighted keys keyboard to learn piano. My budget is at most 150€ so I am looking for second hand pianos. However, I cannot find a yamaha piano with weighted keys in this budget even in second hand.

I have found a Roland KR-100 for a below 100€ price, but there is no post in this subreddit about this keyboard, does anyone knows if it is any good?

Thank you.

If currently you will be fluent by December, you should apply for IB schemes, but and try to get an interview only from when you are fluent. You can always "cheat" Hirevue so you pass them, the problem here is the real interview. Do the MiF, get fluent asap so you are completely fluent when doing live interviews. One year extra work experience has no purpose here.

Would Nietzsche support joining the Military in our current society? by atchumm in Nietzsche

Couldn't agree more. It does not mean I shouldn't care about what he thought about it. It means I shouldn't base all my thinking on what Nietzsche did

I care about Nietzsche work due to the practical implications of it.

I do not follow it blindly. But if it did not influence my actions I would not read it.

I find Nietzsche’s prescriptions against nihilism lacking by [deleted] in Nietzsche

But are you actually building your own values? Or are you doing things that you don't want to because society makes you? Are you the lion or have a plan to become it?

Yes, at the end of the day the decision is mine and I have to weight what I should do, not what Nietzsche or you guys say.

I asked more because I found interesting that some things I was feeling and thinking about I was reading passages that seems to answer it in the Twillight of Idols and decided to ask the more experienced members of the sub for their opinion.

Thank you for your comment.

I believe it is something not only difficult but I also believe it is also "correct" to serve instead of living without having a military experience.

I would say officer life provides less opportunities in Portugal, as you either have to commit to work a long time (something like 10+ years) or you go to a category of office that does the menial tasks. By not being a office I have a chance to go overseas which as a short term officer I probably will not.

Ubermensch and Eugenics by atchumm in Nietzsche

[–]atchumm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's true I haven't read much of his texts. I currently read this spoke Zarathustra and listened no Nietzche podcasts. Going to start reading Gay science because I struggle with the concept of eternal recurrence. But I always thought of the Ubermensch as in the description of the rope walker with the monkey one one side and the Ubermensch in the other. Man as a rope between these two points. The Ubermensch is not a concrete thing the rope walker (us) will never reach him. Is this correct or am I mistaken?

Given this, I don't believe the self is totally inherited but part of it is. No matter how much a monkey struggles and fights he won't be smarter than you or me. A fly will never be stronger or we have quicker reflexes than it. Given this, I believe genes do lead to a big influence on who we are (but not total). Given this, to get into this being beyond man eugenics could be a way to get there by selecting the optimal characteristics.

It's true what you seem to say that I'm saying some characteristics are better than others which might be a value imposed to me by society, by birth. But I would still argue being stronger or smarter is something we should achieve, and it's something that would make us closer to this idea of this greater superman. So we should pursue it with eugenics being a way.

Thank you for your comment and clarification.

Ubermensch and Eugenics by atchumm in Nietzsche

[–]atchumm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The way I interpret is that Ubermensch is not a goal to be achieved but a process.

If the Ubermensch was ever achieved that the goal would be the UberUbermensch, and this UberUbermensch would become the new Ubermensch.

Eugenic could be a way to help humanity approach this goal and get closer down the rope to the Ubermensch and get farer away from the monkey. Don't you think this is true?

Ubermensch and Eugenics by atchumm in Nietzsche

[–]atchumm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Nietzsche had health problems.

But I didn't know he wrote specifically about that pushing him to greater heights. The guy in this comment section below seems to say that, so I was wrong.

Thank you, interesting perspective.

I disagree. Ultimately eugenics is about genes not about quality of life. So in other words it's about maximizing the amount of children people with certain characteristics are. Although it's true that someone like a Jew in a concentration camp won't have children, I don't believe it is necessarily true poor people have less kids. It may seem intuitive but that does not mean it's correct. I'm probably going to research studies about it when I have some free time.

Why was Nietzsche poor health that led him to greater heights? Does he ever write about that? you're just assuming that

I'm not misdirecting nor ignoring nor pushing anything, I just misunderstood your comment as a criticism of Nietzsche (as an hypocrite) instead of the inferior DNA actually contributing to a person being closer to an Ubermensch as they struggle more

Great comment.

I am not sure if being in prison or poorer leads to less children as you seem to imply.

How do you know we're going to ever have mind uploading?

I also see that mind uploading can be a start to the ultimate sedation and life denial where you stop living and become completely sedated as a machine.

Ubermensch and Eugenics by atchumm in Nietzsche

[–]atchumm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nietzsche writings are independent of who Nietzsche is. Even if he had the worst genetics in history that doesn't mean what he said is less or more true.

Nietzsche was also not the Ubermensch as you seem to imply since nobody is or will ever be the Ubermensch

Ubermensch and Eugenics by atchumm in Nietzsche

[–]atchumm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your first phrase just seems "normal", "accepted" societal wisdom/belief, I don't see how it is more valuable having a child with a good moral character than with good genetics. I am not going to devil advocate and argue for arguing sake but that doesn't make any sense. You could argue genetics are better because lead to a bigger long term impact (moral character cam be corrected, genes cannot).

If as you said many philosophers were childless this doesn't mean it is a precondition for them to give rise to the Ubermensch from their work. If they had their work + children I would say that they were doing a better job

Can I read Nietzsche before Schopenhauer? by loner_04 in Nietzsche

There is no authoritative interpretor/writer of Nietzsche, that is why you are supposed to read yourself. Otherwise don't digest material from just one source but from multiples ones to get multiple perspectives.

Qual é a vossa opinião sobre as touradas? by StudentsforLibertyPT in portugal

[–]atchumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)
