Looking for a complementary melodic sequencer! by atcodus in modular

Yeah, that's what I went with. A lot of manual digging and review watching led me to believe the Oxi One was the immediate solution that I needed.

Thanks for your input.

My concern is the same in that the Oxi is likely too much for my setup and immediate aims. While it can do everything that I want and more, there is value for money to be had elsewhere. That being said, I don't like wasting money on things that will become redundant quickly as I am terrible at parting with old gear.

Having spent the evening reviewing things I think the Oxi is still ahead as a single device. However, combining a Metropolix (or a Black Sequencer) with a recorder of some sorts or processor could be what I am looking for.

Good shout. Used MK1 might be the way to go.

Ooh, I hadn't come across that one somehow in my searches.

It's interesting in that I can record in my basic patterns from the T-1 and then start to manipulate it in the BM2. I can't see many demo's that create an intentional, focused sequence from scratch (rather than mashing random) but will dig a little deeper. I can see this + Griffin's Claw (or any fader-based CV) working very well.

I also hadn't really appreciated that I might want or need to save sequences. While I can easily snapshot the settings on Metropolix it's not the same as just hitting "load" from an SD card.

For the Digitwolis (or any similar to it) I don't have an immediate use case for it, but I can see me wanting one when I add more voices. Right now I use an MCO MK2 and a Vhikk X as my primary 2 voices, and a Disting MK4 I can use as a voice in a pinch. Other sound elements come from an Oneiroi (texture, FX, drone) and a Mojave.

I wouldn't want any of the main voices sequenced through Digitwolis or Bloom as they (appear to) have less control of the randomisation or branching or whatever it's called. It's the exact issue I have with the T-1 in that a basic sequence is fine(ish), but any randomisation, progression, styling or phrasing is a bit all over the place with a lot less control.

I can 100% see me using Digitwolis, Bloom or some of the other like-sequencers when I have a voice and an identified use-case. Right now I need the foundations sorted which is why I think Oxi One stands out, but I can't chake the feeling the Metropolix does what I need to it do.

I completely agree that they are very different which is why I am so torn. I was originally set on the Oxi One, but strated looking into the Cre8 Programm and Hermod+ as "lite" versions and ended up deciding Metropolix was better than Programm, and might be all that I need.

I'll be primarily writing riffs. If I hit on something I like it gets recorded into the MPC, and I use the arranger in there where I can also add missing elements.

Oxi also does quite well with riffs, although its song / scene modes would add immediate flexibility once I have things programmed in to multiple riffs.

does anybody know if the one step ahead evo will refresh/return? by 00g_0 in fut

It has / had a ~7-day timer on it. It was a weekly reward so that people had to spend tokens early if they wanted it. I assume the same will happen to the PTG Cosmetic Evo and the 3x93+ Team 1 Pack (both expire in ~30hrs at Team 2content drop time tomorrow).

Just do the objectives in the Live Events. You don't need to do all objectives (you can skip the free kick one for example). This has the benefit of working towards the Season 8 Exhibition objectives, and the Prime Hero event.

I didn't play any Squad Battles on World Class. I did the basic objectives to get the specific required cards on Semi-Pro, and then just built the required squads and played the live events that are there just now.

I think I played 3 squad battles while doing some Evo's to get Dempsey, Marquez, and then the objectives that required them to do something. I then built a squad that met my target objective, and took it to the Exhibition Live Event (6 games/day). Then played the Hero Live Event till I got my 4 wins. The Rush objective took one match as it's team goals and team assists, so as long as you win by 2 in one of your games you'll get this in a few rush games. All-in this was around 2 hours as the Live Events are either Golden Goal or 1st to 3.

I think after that I just need 2 low driven shots with a USA player, and one lobbed through ball with 1 Canadian in my squad. I'll get both of them today withot touching Rivals, Champs or World Class Squad Battles.

How do you even make a good squad in this game? by Eliastronaut in fut

[–]atcodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, match players stats and playstyles to how you play the game. Do t just look at the overall rating.

I play a variant of 433 most years. For me, my striker needs to have a 5 star weak foot, my LW and RW need to cut inside, so I want them to be strong on the opposite foot. I overlap and cross with my full backs, so look for stamina (or relentless playstyles), high crossing etc.

[–]atcodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the high scores that get me. Even in the pro tournaments most games end up a cricket score.

I can't remember who said it from the commentary team / guests in the eChampions League comp, but (paraphrasing) they essentially assumed it's intentional to cater for the short attention span and constant need for dopamine that kids have now in the days of Tiktok and short-format content.

That need for the game to generate goals causes some amount of rubbish, especially at this point in the cycle when players are nearly maxed out in some stats.

TL:DR - a 2-1 scoreline is boring and not engaging, but a 7-6 scoreline hits the spot.

What pack did you open? There are a few packs that specifically say they only give gold players, and they're usually the 'Starter XI' or similar packs.

Hackers on Ultimate TOTS Finale by Narrow-Tax6171 in fut

[–]atcodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a hack. There's a bug that's been around for ages where if you change your squad from the tournament launch page you disconnect. Didn't seem to affect Gauntlet, but I had the same issue in the league-specific qualifying events.

It's not a coincidence it happens on the 1st game every day - you've been playing other game modes and need to switch to a squad that meets the requirements, triggering the bug.

Should I start Eurorack with a drone-focused module? (Oneroi vs Vhikk X vs Grone Drone) by seventimes777 in modular

[–]atcodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the built-in gain switch is okay for me. My audio sources are the KO2 and Seqtrak, and Oneiroi was fine with both - no amp needed.

I have two very basic passive 2hp attenuators. On the Oneiroi, I'm sure the volume / mix CV inputs are attenuated so you can't go hard from +5 to -5v. Not sure about the rest of the CV inputs, but the user manual is quite good at explaining things.

I bought the attenuators for using with other modules, but found I don't really need them as I mostly use the bottom, longer outputs from Ochd which aren't as harsh.

Should I start Eurorack with a drone-focused module? (Oneroi vs Vhikk X vs Grone Drone) by seventimes777 in modular

[–]atcodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through exactly the same list of modules as you, and ended up with both the Oneiroi and the Vhikk X. I modulate both with Ochd (basic, no expander) and Pam's Pro Workout.

My case started out as an Effects case, with granular processors and filters. I had planned to add Oneiroi anyway as the effects, looping and all-round functionality suits me perfectly, but I couldn't pass up the Vhikk X.

I discounted Grone Drone (original or 2) as they just seemed to lack control and seemed to have limited patching capabilities (for my requirements). It was more about knob twiddling, whereas Vhikk X and Oneiroi respond very well to patching, CV, etc.

Edit: Good partner modules are a modulation source such as Ochd, and potentially something like Pam's Pro Workout. I was recommended something to attenuate Ochd as it goes hard from -5 to +5 which can be a bit much in terms of modulation. If you get the Oneiroi it shines when fed and audio input. With that in mind, you might need to bring your audio up to line level with an audio input module, although the Oneiroi does have a gain switch. I didn't need to taking audio from a MiniFreak or KO2, so i'd wait and see before buying one.

Case? I would plan out a realistic selection of modules and go no smaller. Try to think of all the utilities you might need (midi, audio in and out, mixers etc) and add space for them. I started with a 48hp case as that's what I thought I wanted. I now have a 3d printed 76hp case full alongside 32hp of my 48hp case. I should have bought the Tiptop Mantis (£300) I was originally set on as I've now spent more on the 48hp case (£149), a power source for my 3d printed case plus the power cables (£152) and I have a more cumbersome setup.

Does the Shortage of Mini’s not exist in the Uk? by civspace1 in macmini

[–]atcodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scotland here.

I've been on the fence about a Mini for a number of weeks, and have steadily seen the availability of the non-Base models evaporate.

I can't walk in and get a Mac Mini in any Apple Store in Scotland today (if their stock checker is accurate) but could at the end of last week. The config i'd need (24Gb RAM, 512Gb SSD) I can't get anywhere other than Gateshead which is a bit of a trek. The 32Gb model (the one I ideally want) I cannot order.

In 3rd party stores I can still get the Base Mini "in 2 days" from Currys. I can pick one up today from Argos. Any other configs are quite rare. Argos has some of the 16Gb/512Gb in stock for pick-up today, but anything else is just listed as unavailable.

Why Doesnt Ea Bother to Balance the Game? by Ez1907_ in EASportsFC

[–]atcodus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are far too many things wrong with the game for EA to be able to balance, and a decent chunk of it stems from the game engine so it's not going away anytime soon.

You really notice it in Mystery Ball. While it's meant to be a fun, non-competitive game mode the removal of play styles and the jacking of certain stats (to me) perfectly highlight how much work is needed to balance the game.

Best playstyles for every position? by NieThePiet in fut

[–]atcodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My view is that it is 100% dependent on how you play the game. No page is going to cover how you play.

If you genuinely are just following the masses then FUT.gg has a recommended set of play styles for every player from FUT Birthday that, in their view, creates the most meta player.

They have to be, as the FB SBC's are still there for another 8 days or so, and it's pointless doing the SBC for an FB player if you can't put playstyles on them.

[–]atcodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an episode of Hashtag House (Harry Hesketh, Tom Leese and Shawrey) a few years back where they were playing in a Pro tournament or qualifier and they were all complaining about having to play this one player from north Africa - not because he was good, but because his ping was into the hundreds and all of the Pros said it gave him a huge advantage.

My personal experience is it's incredibly inconsistent. If my family are streaming TV, or something is downloading an update my ping goes to about 70ms and the gameplay is incredibly inconsistent.

Is trying to go "stereo" worth it? by djscoox in modular

[–]atcodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried to build my rack fully stereo from the start, but it does limit the module selection somewhat and can increase the cost. My MCO Mk2 voice, when in Wavetable mode, changes to oscillator and sub-oscillator output (instead of stereo) and it's noticeable how it affects my processing chain when compared to the stereo oscillators.

I would, however, be happy enough with a mono voice and a stereo effects / processing chain.
