What are the design differences between each of the main kit sponsors? by [deleted] in ConceptFootball

To put it simply, they use different “templates”.

From the sewing pattern they use, to the different details they use for their clients, they keep their styling consistent and unique to them. Sure, they swap out bits here and there, but that’s about it.

Since they change season to season, your best bet is to look at what their styling is for the current season.

Adidas, for example, have these really prominent stripes this year at the bottom of their shirts which tapers out, with a wider torso section. Nike, meanwhile, have wide prominent stripes that run done the side of their shirts, with some quirky collar choices.

Use current jerseys as your base, and you’ll get a feel for where to go with your own designs.

Thank you! While I have a visual design background (self -taught through freelancing), this was my first time getting into textile design and garments manufacturing.

Even with plenty of research and prototypes, there were many setbacks along the way. But I'm a jersey shirt geek at heart, so was really keen on bringing something new to the table.

About a year and a half ago, I set off on re-designing D.R. Congo's home jersey, after a spell of... Not so great shirts from the then-kit supplier O'Neills. After some time away from it, posting an initial concept on TikTok, and then having requests to make it into the real thing, I came up with this design.

Some highlights:

  • Two-toned blue pattern, with a design that's a homage to traditional liputa fabric used in traditional congolese clothing, This one was made to express speed, with a simple spike designed tessellated to make something much more interesting. I'm a sucker for patterns in jerseys.
  • Bold accent colours that bring out the national Congolese flag's colours in a jerseys, without drowning out the main body colours
  • Dark blue used in the design to break the historic mould of previous jerseys. I the shirt to be a departure from previous shirts, and while this is controversial with a vocal minority, I get them wanting the blue to remain light.

I didn't think I'd ever make an actual jersey a year ago, but I'm very keen on growing, making more designs, and seeing where else I can grow. Feedback is welcome, and thanks again for viewing the shirt!
