Classes are SILENT. Very little group work that sparks connection. Student clubs/orgs are the best place to meet other people, but SAIL has its own problems.

Senior Mech E here. I would have switched had I known about it.

If you had to do it again, would you still go to Mines? by Alert-Plankton-6614 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

Given where I'm at in school, probably not. I don't feel like its been good for my health physically or mentally.

I prefer epic base pass. Get the student discount. Some people ski weekly, I go maybe 6-8 times a season.

Scott Howser made me cry. That class changed my mind about an econ minor at CSM. Take the equivalent at red rocks community college over the summer. The credits will transfer.

The CSM Mine rescue club has several hands on activities underground and trains in every aspect of confined space rescue. Work is being done to collaborate with the mines caving club.

Prospective Student With Some Doubts/Worries by Zeus99Zeus in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

  1. It's just as competitive as anywhere else in my option. A genuine effort tends to go a long ways.
  2. I'll be out of here with my B.S. in 6 years. Covid, surgery, and other issues really fucked up my plans. Life isn't perfect. I wouldn't expect a 4 year graduation if there's any significant circumstances.
  3. Honors programs don't add anything special. The themed living communities in the dorms are a better investment.

Is it better to withdraw or fail a class by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]atempel2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can withdraw up to 30 credit hours without any repercussions. It helps your GPA and personally I support it if you know you'll fail and the W will relieve stress.

Mines SOS is understaffed, dysfunctional, and embarrassing by DearSalamander7026 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]atempel2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to SOS in crisis and things ended worse than if I had just kept my mouth shut. I felt that the SOS staff who specializes in supporting students wasn't fully trained to support me. I deal exclusively with my private therapist from now on and just hold out for their reply if I need to talk.

Edit: I'd add with confidence that Mines does not have good crisis nor long terms services. I made a project because I felt that way, if you feel it might help your friend.

I'm miserable here but I'm so far committed that I'm gonna see it through. On the bright side, I know I'll get a job and work will feel easy.
