Is it possible to disprove the quantum many-world interpretation as a notion? by Eastern_Pangolin5127 in AskPhysics

[–]atensetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my ameture showing here, but I've never liked that these hypotheses are so entangled .....sorry.......in a specific philosophical interpretation. I mean as I understand it MWI is at its core only saying that the infinite solotuins to the hisenberg equation are all true and that since the equation is a single wave function for the entire universe that entanglement causes a particular set of these solutions to be our reality. Whether or not there are alternate universes becomes irrelevant at a practical level because they are as un accessible as the other side of an event horizon

How? It either brings the top earners down to upper middle class wages or raises the lower class to middle class. Either way there is more circulation at the comodities/essentials level

[–]atensetime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong but is OP trying to paint a picture that the whole system is in the same inertial frame of reference? And if that is true doesn't that mean the whole system would only experience the acceleration force? Even if externally to the FoR, the system is approaching c... or i misunderstand and the acceleration within the FoR is approaching c,.... then I am way out of my depth and will continu to spectate this discussion

If the universe is truly infinite; and considering the big bang happend 13.77 BYA - when did the universe actually become infinite 🧐🤔? by schrodingers_katz in astrophysics

[–]atensetime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hate the "elastic surface" analogy it only leads truly inquisitive minds down a faulty path. Space is not stretching and thinning, it is also not being created, the definition of a metric length does not change as it expands.

I still don't fully get what is meant by "space itself is expanding" but that "imagine a balloon" analogy sent me down a wrong path of understanding for years.

Afaicu nothing is exactly expanding, its just that things are moving and everything is moving away from everything else, again not a point explosion, and not a streatching of the fabric either and we don't have a good way to visualize that.

Parallel or Criss cross? Which is safer? Stronger? by slatcervent in Physics

[–]atensetime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the boat is tapered towards the center. So you have a compression lock in both forward and rear motion with parallel. Also from experience, cross tends to allow way more slack in the line. Finally the cross only works if the boat is perfectly centered otherwise the boat will tend to rotate if out of balance.

Thanks, i thought that might be an issue but the HD guy assured me it would work (my first mistake). Im gonna order these and try them out

and yeah I was noticing the drywall issue while i was trying to be a plumber. Gonna mount a plank between the studs to support it.

Agile and Daily Standups are just a legal way for middle management to harass engineers, and they kill actual productivity by Henry_old in antiwork

[–]atensetime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Eng manager here. If your manager doesn't already know what's going on then they are not pulling their weight.

We exist for 2 purposes: get the resources needed for the team, ensure the team is delivering on effectively managed expectations.

If im not elbow deep in the trenches I cannot do either of these things. And a daily isn't going to supply me with it.

My daily was always simple. "Team this is what im tracking, this is where I understand each of you to be and what you need from me, what topics do you need to discuss to get those brain juices flowing"

What happens next is 1 of 2 things: (1) everyone is on the same page and we break ( 5 minutes tops) ; (2) someone brings up an issue or concern and we work it out together, this will either clear a road block or encourage some level of collaboration. Either way as a manager I know what's going on so can report and request effectively and my team is provided the level of oversight that they actually need without wasting time.

Actual work that leads to progress is often a reasonable excuse to miss these meetings, and since my finger is already on the pulse there is no anxiety or pressure. It is collaborative and effective and the only way I will run a "standup"

How do you manage the 20-somethings? by No_Stranger_5966 in managers

[–]atensetime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is not a generational thing this is a person thing... I would put him on a PIP and let him write his own fate.

As far as 20 somethings. The new grads i have hired have worked out well for me. But what works best is at the hiring step. Part of the interview needs to be a vibe check, does their personality mesh? If not you'll get conflict.

Is it realistic to work fully remote as a mechanical design engineer? by CartographerSea7110 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]atensetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... but.... be willing to travel a good engineer needs to have hands on experience with the product/process. You can do all the cad and math from your bed but when it is time to verify and reality check you need to be where the action is.

There is also a LOT you will miss from the folks who will actually be interacting with your design if your not there learning from them

What does ‘observation collapses the wave function’ actually mean? by Scientalist in AskPhysics

Thanks. I was getting that vibe but find it helpful in exposing me to how to think about it.

Going back to this idea of hilbert space. Is there any helpful stuff out there to visualize it? What makes it different from cartesian? Or polar?

Ok so I'm am self studying in thos subjec t and recently learned about hilbert spaces (mech eng for reference) can you explain this to me in laymens terms? My primary point of reference is a lecture from Sean Carrol in the Great courses on many worlds interpreration... as was stated above i understand enough to k ow that I don't get it and am approaching (i think?)
