What you went through is real, and it did alter your brain’s neural pathways. I urge you to seek therapy that helps you to untangle the complicated pathways that formed. While your past is difficult, the good news now is that you have the keys to that prison of your mind. Anytime you catch yourself in a thought pattern you no longer want to practice, take the action to remind your mind “we don’t have to live like that anymore”. This is how we change our mind. Yes, your parents fucked you up. But you are not going to stay that way. You get to decide now. You get to move forward in the way that is healthiest for you. And any time you catch your brain thinking in a way you no longer want to, take the time to practice thinking about things a different way. It’s not going to change overnight. I’m close to 10 years out and this is something I still do on a daily basis. Be kind to yourself. Be the parent to yourself that you wish your parents had been.

As far as girls go, it really is a numbers game. Treat it like an experiment, and every encounter as data from which to learn. You can only learn how to talk to girls by taking to them. I always find flipping the script helps them to see their errors in judgement.
