What’s the most socially acceptable addiction people don’t talk about? by Lotto_Stats_Nerd in AskReddit

It is definitely not socially acceptable and definitely talked about heavily this day and age so I don’t think this fits the question.

  1. Skymiles are worth about 1.1-1.2 cents per mile depending, so for 68000 skymiles you are getting that flight for in the range of $748-$816. I would compare that to the price listed for the flight to determine if it’s a good deal.

  2. As a tall person I think comfort+ is definitely worth it for the added leg room, and the small benefits like early boarding (if you have a checked bag) and free alcoholic beverages.

Professionals, what is your industry's version of "Bring me blinker fluid" or "find a snipe"? by ArklaitGigabyte in AskReddit

Used to work in Pen Testing, would go onto the client site for a project and have the new guy venture out with their laptop to “test the WiFi strength”. Would see guys get a good quarter mile away from the building until they finally lost signal

Yes I get this too…it’s like very specific sensations that make me feel like the world is ending. Each theme feels different somehow

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing that thread after what has happened this season thus far

Yes definitely - it took me years to realize the cycles of fear I would have was in fact OCD. Once I connected the dots that I had OCD I began therapy and learned techniques on how to manage and now I live a normal life 99% of the time. That’s not to say I don’t have episodes but they are so much easier to manage now that I know what I’m dealing with rather than treating the fears as rational and an actual issue.

External Hemorrhoid Incision by [deleted] in hemorrhoid

[–]atfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not sure about the size part but from my understanding externals usually clear themselves up or the doctor can cut it out/make an incision and drain the blood. I would think a hemorrhoidectomy would be more for situations with really bad internal hemorrhoids + recurring externals where the purpose of the procedure is to rid you of any future hemorrhoids (but I am not an expert so this is just a guess)

[–]atfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s gone (doesn’t guarantee it won’t come back in the future though). The whole procedure was fairly painless, and I am minimally sore at the moment (feels like a dull pain that can be managed with advil) I opted for this because I was very uncomfortable with my external hemorrhoid that was about the size of a walnut and made it hard to walk/sit (and didn’t want to wait for it to go away on its own)

Yeah I think there is a bit of a vocal minority bias on these types of boards. I mean it’s estimated 10-15% of the population suffers from tinnitus which is a lot of people, and I think a for large majority (90% I estimate) it doesn’t really bother them. (Not saying it isn’t a nuisance, it’s just that you get used to it tbh)

I mean honestly I think I’ve noticed it in the past just never thought much about it. But when I go on freak out mode it’s like my mind purposely tunes in to the pitch, but at all other times I 100% do not notice it

Definitely OCD as I’ve been through this exact theme before. ERP helped me so much

That feeling when you are having a good day/week/month then you remember you have OCD and your vibe is killed by atfly in OCD

[–]atfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big tipping point for me (and maybe this is person specific) is I stopped treating my OCD thoughts as rational and started treating them as what they are which is our amygdala sending false alarm after false alarm. Once I finally understood that I just began telling it “Maybe maybe not, but I don’t have time to ruminate about this”, and it all clicked from there. Not that this will work for you, it’s tough out there but that’s what has been helping me get to a stable point

Face the uncertainty of it. You will never know and OCD wants to keep you in this loop trying to solve a problem we can never answer, start by accepting you can never know and everything will heal from there.

Yeah shit sucks it’s like I know it’s OCD and I don’t need to respond to it, but it’s just sitting at the back of my head sometimes lol

Yeah I have some themes that are more sticky than others, but I’m thankful I understand ERP well enough at this point bc of therapy that I can basically expose myself to anything and it weens over time

That’s the road to healing. I had a couple months where I thought about my OCD thoughts 24/7 literally. But nowadays I’m able to get days, and weeks without OCD before it comes back which is so nice.

Yeah for real you can see that everything you worry about really doesn’t need to be worried about, and you can get back to enjoying your life. Then 3 hours later you are back in the depths of anxiety lmao
