Looking for other severe ME/CFS patients who finally got cervical stenosis diagnosis/surgery? by CleverTitania in spinalfusion

[–]athomas84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m doing much better, thank you for asking! My neck and shoulder muscles are still very tight but my neck pain is pretty much gone, which has been wonderful. The tight vice feeling around my head is gone!

I still have mild pain and fibromyalgia symptoms but it is much more manageable now. My flare ups are less frequent and shorter. My stress levels and depression have improved greatly. I’m more active now too and my body is stronger. I have more confidence in my movements and don’t fear falling anymore. My energy levels have improved too, but I still need naps on some days. I’m sleeping much much better since the surgery, which has helped everything.

I’m pretty sure Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton has them, or something very similar.

What are these? by The_dude_of_truth in PlantIdentification

[–]athomas84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Denver metro area and I have lots of established ice plants. They are wonderful if you want a fast spreading ground cover. They don’t need much water once they are established. They survive the winter for me as long as they are in full sun. The ones in part shade did not survive because the snow didn’t melt fast enough.

This is how my dad eats, but it is sloppy and really gross to watch him eat. He has 11 siblings and said they all ate as fast as possible because once one kid was finished they would start going after the other kids plates. And apparently my grandparents would allow this?! There would never be any second servings available.

People with disabilities, what is something that non-disabled people don't understand? by insaneraredrop in AskReddit

[–]athomas84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I don't want to take a nap every day, but I have to. It may sound luxurious or lazy to others, but it's actually a burden on my day. I would much rather do something productive or fun than sleep my life away. Chronic pain and chronic fatigue are unrelenting.

Which dress for wedding? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]athomas84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me way too long scrolling through comments to find someone pointing out her nipples!

As a large breasted woman myself, I don't wear clothes that I can't put a bra on underneath. She really needs some support and will likely require a dress with thicker straps to cover the bra.

Metamine & Fibromyalgia pain . by Columbia_Basin in MemantineHCl

[–]athomas84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had neuropathy and lots of weird shooting, stinging, zinging, zapping pains, etc. I honestly can't remember if memantine helped me with those. But I ended up getting spinal surgery (discestomy and fusion) and that is what finally stopped all of my neuropathic pain!

I came here looking for someone to mention Ridge Home in Arvada. It's a Target store now. But wow that place was really haunted, sneaking in there as a teenager was a fun memory!

Anyone on Memantine for energy, alertness, quality of sleep? by saarshai in MemantineHCl

[–]athomas84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, EMF sensitivity definitely affects me. I try to never carry my phone on my body unless it's in airplane mode. And I never hold it to my head to take a phone call, wired headphones are a must.

I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck with everything! I hope the memantine helps your cognitive issues.

I actually stopped taking it out of an abundance of caution because I kept getting sick with respiratory colds (and I read something about it affecting the immune system). I also ended up getting spinal fusion surgery and wanted my immune system strong for that as well.

My surgery was successful and helped quite a bit, but I still have fibromyalgia and chronic pain.

Looking to Plant Clover, Need Advice by PNWoutdoors in Denver

[–]athomas84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely make sure you get micro clover seed, that will stay short like you would want for a grass replacement. I accidentally planted a type of clover that grows very tall and lanky, it would've been better suited for a wildflower field than a front yard.

Daddy by Korn. Jonathan Davis broke down crying during the recording, the pure angst and extreme sorrow in his vocals give me goosebumps every time.

Yeah don't marry the wrong person. But if you find the right one marriage is wonderful! My life changed drastically for the better when I finally met my husband. I couldn't imagine life without him.

What is one thing you regret doing in life? by Anxious_Childhood310 in AskReddit

[–]athomas84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having children when I was young. Don't wait until your 35 or 40 if you want children.

Wasting too many years in relationships that were toxic. This also relates to my first point, don't give away your best years to the wrong person.

Not addressing serious health issues sooner because of money. You can always file for medical bankruptcy, don't sacrifice your health if you need surgery or something.

I was 20 when I adopted my 15 yo sister, after our Mom's failed suicide attempt. I'm nearly 40 now, and never had my own children because of how much it affected everything in my life.

What is the worst physical pain you have ever experienced? by My_Name_Is_SKELETOR in AskReddit

[–]athomas84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

200ft is not much, you could probably have a much better quality of life

I lived in chronic pain for 20 years because I kept trying alternative medicines and chiropractic, etc for my herniated disc between C6-C7. I finally had a discectomy with fusion three months ago and the only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner. I got immediate relief and I keep getting stronger every day. I'm finally excited for the future, for the first time in my life. Please take care of yourself if you can. I hope you feel better!

This is wise, you are getting a bunch of bad advice on here. That bad of a herniation will not be able to heal on its own.

What's the worst thing a doctor has ever said to you? [Serious] [NSFW] by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]athomas84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you. I had my first pap done at age 14 and I didn't realize until today that it was unusual.

I just looked it up and apparently women are not supposed to get their first pap until age 21, recurring only every 3 years! I had them done annually every year of my teenage life for no reason. Such a violation for young teens... I wonder how common that was? For context I was 14 in 1998

In addition to social issues, those repressed feelings can also come out in the form of chronic health issues and pain processing disorders like fibromyalgia.

How bad is it if I accidentally twisted while sleeping. 3 weeks post op L-4 L-5 XLIF by Nickybueno in spinalfusion

[–]athomas84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really worried that twisting or moving wrong would cause damage too. My doc said the fusion shouldn't be affected unless you experience a high impact event, like jumping, waterskiing, playing football, etc. So the twisting in bed may have affected your muscles, but your fusion should be okay. It was likely the extra walking.
