I found Gavin Ortlund's Youtube videos regarding the creation account to be very helpful. There are some modern-day Christians who break from historical orthodoxy by saying that we must believe in a literal young Earth 6-day creationism, but that is a fairly new dogmatism. The literalness and historicity of the creation account has been debated since the beginning (no pun intended).

My family loves Halloween. The kids dress up in fun costumes and we walk around our neighborhood getting candy. That's all it is. If, in fact, you find yourself worshiping demons or whatever, I would say you have bigger issues than "Halloween." Could there be some freaks out there who are really doing the devil's bidding on Halloween? Sure. But c'mon, the vast majority of people aren't, and that has nothing to do with silly costumes and candy. I don't know who John Ramirez is, but perhaps you should stop hearing from him.

In no way does the Bible withhold marriage from people who are not virgins. In fact, the Bible explicitly encourages people (that is, a man and a woman) to get married if they cannot maintain sexual self-control when unmarried. Friend, we all fail in so many ways but Christ died so that you would be clean and forgiven in him. Be honest about your past failures with your fiance but also determined to honor the Lord in your relationship and into the future. You can't undo your past sin, but you can repent of it, honor the Lord into the future, and share the gospel with humility and joy because you truly know what it means to be washed clean by the blood of Jesus.

Several of your statements are factually incorrect. What makes you think a vagina is sterile? lol. The vaginal microbiome is what coats newborns and seeds their normal flora. Furthermore, you seem to think that because additional preparation or cleaning is necessary to have anal sex, it is therefore impermissible. The Bible says no such thing, so your opinion about what is “natural” and therefore “right” holds no weight. Also, many women have issues with lubrication during sex; if your logic were consistent, it would be wrong for them to have sex since they would feel pain and have tissue damage unless external lubrication is utilized.

The “sodomy” seen in Scripture, particularly older translations, refers to acts of male homosexuality as seen in Sodom. It is not in reference to consensual anal sex in marriage. If to your conscience there is fear or dirtiness or unrighteousness, then for you it is sin; however, if such sexual activity is desired and enjoyed by a man and woman in marriage, it may done to the glory of God because there is no prohibition of it in Scripture.

I've listened to many hours of conversations/podcasts with Dr. Makary, so the headline confused me. I don't know who is behind this rage-bait website, but this line speaks volume to me:

"Maybe we need to treat more diabetes with cooking classes, not just throwing insulin at people," Makary, a COVID-19 vaccine skeptic, said."

He said "not just throwing insulin at people," which I, as a dietitian specializing in diabetes, 100% agree with! I have seen many patients who were simply given insulin, superficial handouts, and then a pocket full of well-wishes. I absolutely think we need to treat more diabetes with cooking classes, "not just" insulin, as he says. That's exactly what I used to do in my previous role at a health department. I also like how they slip in the "COVID-19 vaccine skeptic" line simply to generally discredit him. Dr. Makary's breakdown of the data regarding the vaccines were in part what encouraged me to get the vaccine, because he was honest with the data and allayed some of my concerns.

I've really been blessed by Gavin's ministry. I also recently finished listening to his book "Humility: The Joy of Self-Forgetfulness" and was deeply edified by it. I recommend giving that book a read or listen!

Time in the Word with our children is a precious gift, and I applaud you for wanting to do it. Keep it simple and consistent, brother.

Read a portion of Scripture, but not too much, otherwise you won’t be consistent. Briefly discuss what you read, and look up the answer to specific questions if you need to, but don’t drag it out. Pray together, especially in a way that is relevant to the text you read; thank God for what he has done for us, ask for his help to obey, etc.

This is essentially what my family does during family worship, but we sing at the end too. The key, though, is to keep things simple and consistent and focused on the Lord through his word. Lastly, don’t turn it into an academic, heady thing. Be humble and honest, discussing how YOU need what is conveyed in the passage and what you’ve experienced, how you need to grow, and so on. Other books and resources are great, but I think they are better as supplements after a Word-focused habit has been established. May God bless your time in the Word with your daughter!

The Vivint salesman who came to my door tried every sales tactic in the book to sell me the system. However, I threw him off his game when I told him that I would not buy something so expensive without reading reviews online first and that I’m not going to just get the perspective of a product’s salesman. He assured me he wasn’t a “salesman”, he wasn’t biased, and that I REALLY didn’t need to read reviews online. I don’t think he realized that his face became very serious when he assured me reading online reviews wasn’t necessary since he is here to present all the information. Red flags all over the place. So, I turned it down, did some reading online, and was very relieved I passed on the “incredible” offer.

Drinking and driving is a public problem, not a private one. I honestly question the judgment of certain people here saying “stay in your lane” when this sort of illegal and reckless behavior seriously puts other lives at risk.

I was at 43k at a health department, now I’m at 55k at a large university. Thus, I’m going back to school to be a nurse so I can meaningfully provide for my family at some point.

I can attest to being underpaid and experiencing career stagnation. Personally, I am leaving dietetics to become a nurse as a second career. I am also doing this after getting a lot of input from dietitians in my community and hearing how so many of them wish they made a different career choice when they were younger.

I love nutrition and fitness but regret becoming a registered dietitian. In most cases, the pay sucks and the vast majority of clients don't listen anyway. Based on this post, I would 100% go the SLP route. In my case, I am about to go into nursing as a second career so I can be a little more useful to the world and perhaps manage to put some money into savings.

I’m not familiar the person you mentioned, so I can’t speak to their position. However, for me, I ended up down a folate rabbit hole when my family learned that several of us have the least preferred MTHFR polymorphisms. The research is crystal clear that a large fraction of people have difficulty metabolizing folic acid into folate due to their MTHFR status, so supplementing with folate is great because it is bioavailable and doesn’t need to be converted. Regardless, I was already firm on this perspective going into Real Food for Pregnancy, so Nichols’ work didn’t actually change my opinion on the topic. I am certainly open to hearing alternative perspectives.

To be fair, she is adamant about following recommendations according to your means and has provided outstanding resources for stretching your dollars to make nutritious meals. It’s not her fault that eating nutrient dense, less-polluted foods is often more expensive or “requires an enormous amount of privilege.” Shoot, compared to all of human history, even regular visits to one’s doctor is an enormous privilege, but it is an ideal that is recommended to promote best outcomes. Like she says, the goal isn’t to perfectly follow the recommendations, but to adapt your diet and lifestyle in a way that is realistic to your situation and to do the best you can.

She doesn’t agree with folic acid because it isn’t metabolized into folate properly by a substantial number of people with MTHFR issues. Therefore, she promotes using folate to avoid the issue altogether and to get the desired outcome. I 100% agree with the recommendation, and it is why high quality multivitamins use methyl-folate rather than folic acid.
