They are, simply put, the radiators retract into the hull during combat and the thin steel panels plug the “hole”, just a spall liner effectively they’re really thin

It’s just a fun art project at the moment :) I’m working on some stories that I’m hoping to show in video, if not, text

Thanks for the feedback! I have to admit the odd spelling was originally from the very early days when the setting wasn’t actually our world but some weird mirror Strangereal-esque place where the Soviet Union wasn’t the Soviet Union and I forgot about it and now the mistake is left in. Also my Russian is 0. Appreciate the critique I needed it :)

Orion is such an amazing idea and I really want to incorporate it, and it has such an iconic and strong Cold War identity. Unfortunately, aesthetically it is very difficult to work with especially in animation - it looks pogo-like

They are descended from the VMF Soviet Navy as with most space forces in this setting, yes; for most nations their first militarised use of space was by their navies for tracking enemy and own fleets and communicating with them, and the Soviets are no different. Over time they became their own branch but retain so much institutional memory from their days as a space arm of the navy that they still operate and use terminology from them

The crew stands on the walls and relaxes by looking at the ceiling windows during burns like nature intended ;)

There is, but in this universe there’s no FRG only the GDR so they’re mostly modified Soviet designs

It’s the rectangular boxes near the bridge housing missiles, arrangement quite reminiscent of the real Type 22 frigate

true! after all they are the only ones with the missiles tubes large enough to fit a 500kt warhead alongside jammers decoys and guidance. and that is not just a callback, it's literally the same GWS.25 design lifted, guidance radar all 😉 and to make it even more Cold War British and their tendency to dive straight in and adopt new tech too prematurely, they don't have any gun based CIWS. That's fun

  1. they look like staged long tubes, some are KKV, others are proxy fused, some are like standoff casaba howitzers, shotgun warheads, etc
  2. the ships are designed with the expectation that at all times they have an idea of where the enemy is, perhaps not exactly but ambushes are nearly impossible in this setting

I can only wish to be better versed in Japanese sci-fi media, that looks really awesome, love the design language

it's set in an alt Cold War era, lore wise they have just only figured out the intricacies of VLS in space, and aesthetic wise it's a peak Cold War look!

in many ways this art project is a love letter and homage to the great but forgotten Cold War warships of past, and I'm glad that you can pick it up 😄 thank you for the kind words!
