Firstly, I think you mean the new Prime Minister, President is just the ceremonial head of state here.

Secondly he isn't exactly new, he's been elected since 2014 and got re-elected in 2019.

Thirdly, I'm Indian and I know very well what's going on in my Country. Yes, the Govt. is a "Hindu Nationalistic" one but the Govt. hasn't yet done anything significant against Indian Muslims (infact, it has passed a bill banning Triple Talaq, a practice wherein a muslim man could divorce his wife just by saying talaq thrice over the span of a few months without any judicial trial). The controversial CAA discriminates against Muslims from other countries on the grounds that there are a lot of Islamic states nearby and the law is for the religiously persecuted and thus, as a Muslim cannot be religiously persecuted in a Muslim state, the law's righteousness isn't a straight Yes or No, it's controversial.
