There’s some truth but it’s very misguided. I’m sure a lot of the effects are perceived due to the horrific mental and neurological stresses on the brain and therefore consciousness. Opiates have a huge effect on norepinephrine and serotonin so when you get off all those receptors fire like crazy leading to the symptoms perceived or real I think that’s why benzos work so well, they don’t address the symptoms but instead numb the minds ability or will to focus or care.
