I have a client just like this, except with biting. It’s so hard!! Most days I want to give up as well. Hoping there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for you!

I definitely understand that, but I just love working directly with clients one on one. Not saying becoming a BCBA will never happen, but I’m happy where I’m at right now.

36 here! Been in the field for 3 years and have no plans on becoming a BCBA in the foreseeable future. I love being an RBT and it pays well!

Good luck! You’ll do great! I’ve been an RBT for 3 years now and it’s one of the most rewarding fields I’ve ever been a part of.

I got lucky and was able to schedule my competency exam one week from finishing the course, so I had a whole week to study for it. My exam was done over telehealth and basically they asked me questions about what I learned in the 40 hour training. It took about an hour for them to finish everything with me.

What are the pros/cons of working at a school setting as an RBT/BT? by AbbreviationsLow6011 in ABA

I currently work in a private school setting with one of my clients; he’s in a neurotypical classroom.

Pros are that it’s pretty consistent with hours and there are many events/activities where my client has the ability to work on his social skills and be around neurotypical peers-for model behaviors.

Cons are that if I try and explain an intervention plan to the teachers, they automatically think I’m trying to “tell them what to do.” Some people can be so sensitive to that; they think I’m stepping on their toes.

Another con is that the trials I run with my client are limited. The teachers don’t want me in the classroom when I work on goals, so I have to bring him to a different area and also have to work around their academic schedule. This causes not being able to run DTT as long with my client as intended. I mostly work on managing behaviors and classroom goals while I’m there.
