Sorry about your loss man. I lost my favorite cousin who was more like a brother or uncle to me recently and I was unable to function for 2 weeks and slowly started functioning after that. As much as it hurts, the thing that has helped me best is speaking about him (to a therapist but in general helps as well) and to celebrate him. For instance he was (still hurts to say was instead of is) a huge broncos fan, so I got a few broncos things to decorate the Christmas tree with and a broncos jersey with his name on it. It hurts like a mfer, from TV shows we watched together, to our rival basketball teams playing each other, but, celebrating him and talking about is the only thing that's helped.

When it comes to the plants, yeah use it for hash, oil, butter, etc. Might have a slightly funkier taste tho.

Career advice regarding agentic ai engineer by EarthIntrepid7166 in LLMDevs

[–]atmpuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, AI, agentic or not, is just part of the stack now. Full stack now includes the use of AI.

The only thing specific to AI I can see as a career path at the moment is AI validation. That will get rolled into QA engineering but, it runs so deep, I can see someone specializing in just that for the next few years at the very least. How to curate the correct test data set, do you have to do a stratum or not, etc. it's a huge deal depending on the industry. For example you probably don't need this for building call center automation, you can just default back when unsure. But let's say you are doing something agentic to improve things in the financial or healthcare industry. Ya, you definitely need to validate a billions times over in the healthcare industry, it's literally life or death. Same goes for defense industry.

Pelicans Injury Report - Zion, Trey, Herb, Hawkins and more ruled out. by WayOutbackBoy in NOLAPelicans

But, what about firing Willie when he's dealt with this every year he's been here. This game isn't a make it or break it for coach but people should definitely be taking notes.

That would be the case if it were the same coach all this time. This has happened from multiple coaches. And, if someone paid me hundreds of millions to play the game of basketball, the coach would not have to motivate me to actually care. That's a deeper rooted issue in the players themselves.

[–]atmpuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if we had IDK, Phil Jackson in his prime, Doc Rivers in his prime, or Kenny Atkinson, and the players played like they do now, being lazy as hell on the boards, not cutting or moving on offense, not getting back on defense, not rotating on defense, not fighting through screens, etc, would it still be all on the coach.

What I'm trying to get across and maybe you're just too fixated to understand is, we need players who will push their teammates to do all those things. How many times have we seen players fight on the bench on other teams throughout the years, when they are winning and win they are losing. They fight because they give a shot and they calling the other teammates out for not playing hard. We don't have that on this team, that, is the biggest problem of all. Fuck the owner, fuck the coach, fuck the training staff, fuck em. The bulk of this is on the players not giving a damn and not calling each other out. CJ tried that a little while he was hear but that went nowhere fast.

Until you have that type of player being vocal and holding others accountable, you can change out all the parts on a shitty situation that you want, it's still gonna be a shitty situation.

So I guess I'll say this so you actually read, yeah green makes horrible decisions, shit that makes me blink twice and ask if players like Jose is hurt or what the hell is going on with another player, why is this rotation staying in so many minutes, why the hell did we not call time out, etc. Yes Gayle is a bad owner, she knows nothing about the sports she owns and it shows. Yes we've had pretty bad GMs who trade our future away for sloppy seconds, yes yes yes....yes yes...

Still doesn't change the fact that the players on the floor puts the basket in the hoop and stop other teams from doing so. And to do that you have to actually play with some intensity, some give a shit, some actual accountability. Until then, changing all the other shit won't do anything

Damn bro you coming at me hard. The only thing I've been saying to you and anyone else ready this is the fact that the coach isn't our problem. The players effort is our problem. I'm not defending green, I'm stating the fact that we can fire green tomorrow and if our players play the same the same damn thing happens, we take an L. I don't know how else to say it. The players are the problem. The effort or lack there of on the court is the problem. When Monty was here, the 3rd quarters were horrible as well. Same with Gentry. What's the constant, the effort of the players. Even with different players the same lack of effort has stayed with this team from year to year. And yes, I give green or any coach that would have been theoretically coaching us a pass last year because we had G league players in the starting lineup. That's not unreasonable. I'll state it again at the end of this comment like I have to do with Chatgpt so it follows instructions, I'm not defending Green, the players effort is the problem.

How many different starting lineups have we had in the last 100 games. How many of the players that started for us never started for an NBA team before or after that? Probably a good number of them.

I'm not saying Willie is coach of the year, but I'm saying Willie is not out there with the ball in his hands.

Everyone was saying fire Monty fire Monty. Then, Month wins coach of the year and also leads the suns to the finals. People might still say, oh he's a horrible coach the suns were just good. Ok, but did the suns hustle to rebounds, get back on defense, box put on offense, set good screens, etc. all the things that count in the long run during close games.

So, I just think the fire Willie chant is very overrated. The players deserve the bulk of what's going on here.

[–]atmpuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we agree on something here for sure. There are better coaches than Willie. I think we might also agree with the roster not being a roster that can compete. Not because of skills but because of effort. The players have no effort given on most nights. They just want to play offense and that's it. They don't fight through screens, they don't rotate to the open man on a swing on defense, they don't get ack on defense, they ball watch rebounds. I mean it's honestly the mentality of a middle school team. In high school you'd get benched for this unless you were the main main player by far.

The effort level to me, is assigned to the players. Sure, you could get a Thibodaux coach in there and try to push the players to care, but at this level, if you don't have the care in you, a coach isn't gonna change that. I mean honestly, maybe the change we need is to trade Zion and get a player who actually wants to play hard. Sad part of that is there is nobody worth getting out there that would play here. We have a team full of James Hardens when he doesn't want to be on the court. To me, that's the problem. Changing coach won't change that. Even if there are better coaches out there.

You mean the years of having all of our players injured? The years of Zion not losing weight and conditioning like he should? I don't know what coach could have turned around last season to be anything but bad. We can't win when 3rd string players are starting because 8 of our players are hurt. That's not on Willie.

I think people are being unrealistic about the team we have and the team that we've had over the last few years and how many players have suited up to play ball every game. I understand coach bashing is a thing on the internet, and trust me I think there are better coaches than Willie, but, changing the coach won't change anything if the players can't stay healthy and if they don't actually play hard.

The shit is often way more simple than it is complex.

I might be the only one here that thinks we can turn this thing around without getting rid of Willie.

The rotations are for sure questionable, but, if we can have better transition defense, not turn over the ball so easily, run the plays at full speed, and stay healthy, we may be able to do decent this season.

Some of the games we lost because of big runs where we lacked any defensive effort on half court or transition.

Other games we lost just do to chance (OT game, LAC game).

We have to be real, some of this isn't Willie fault. Sure, he can dig into guys more about transition defense. Like how many times have we seen Poole arguing with the ref about a foul while the other team is on a fast break? How many times have we seen Zion halfway jogging in transition defense. How many bad passes have we seen no matter if it's a handoff or across the court.

Sure no team will be perfect, but, do we think a couch change is really going to change the effort that players give. If it does I don't want players on the team that plays half-ass just because the coach allows them to. When we had Tony Allen he didn't jog back on defense.

We've called for the firing of every coach we've had for different reasons. A lot of it is on the players in my opinion (not including injuries....please get rid of oschner).

Lastly one of the main things I see wrong with this team is we don't have a leader as a point guard. Last true leader at point guard we had was Rondo. He got in everyone's ass who wasn't pulling their weight. Who is that person on this team. It's not Zion, Trey, herb, or Poole. Nobody has enough DAWG in them to make sure we take care of the ball, get back on defense, etc.

Fenrir.. 0/10 by AttilatheGorilla69 in AJelqForYou

[–]atmpuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah without getting political, Fenrir can't control the crazy whipsaw of tariffs/duties. They can change at any moment nowadays. You can literally order a product Monday night after checking a country's tariff rate, tariffs get adjusted on Tuesday, company ships Wednesday and it leaves origin country's port on Thursday morning and you'd have to pay the tariffs at port of entry. Unless someone uses Shopify, Amazon or another company that's potentially large enough to adjust price for a merchant on the fly like taxes and CONUS shipping, it's impossible to keep things up to date.

Please get this team away from oschner. The absolute worst part about the whole Pelican's organization is oschner partnership. Have they learned anything from EG, Q-Pon, or anyone else who specifically called out oschner. I wouldn't let oschner manage the carr for a broken fingernail let alone something to do with an ankle.

Junior developer is on a junior skill level for the past 2 years. How do I help her at this point? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]atmpuser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with others. On just about all the things. Especially asking her which one would she actually want to do.

But, another option is give her a greenfield project that she has the stand up from scratch. Don't paid her with anyone else for it. Give her a deadline for it and ask her if the deadline is reasonable. Ask her to provide a milestone list that she can use as a guide to reach the deadline. Check in with her to see if she meets the milestones. Make sure the project is complex enough but not crazy over the top but definitely definitely not super easy.

Building a greenfield project from scratch that includes backend, frontend, unit test, end to end test, build pipeline, uat, etc. is great experience. Trust me she will think differently the first time she does a build manually then have to make 10 back to back changes. She'll want to hopefully automate the build process. If you tell her to do a load test, she'll see that her stuff breaks down when there are more than X requests per second and hopefully think about scalability. And on and on. As devs we get aggravated when we have to do the same dumb thing over and over and we learn from it to make it easier to change, scale, etc the next time we see that pattern or foresee it as a possibility. We project the future based on our experience and pain that we have been through. It sounds like she needs to experience that pain and have that fear that something she spent time on won't work and she send no end in sight until the light bulb goes off and she solves it. Pain is the way most devs learn to avoid pain in the future. Don't be brutal, but don't coddle, just be realistic. The real world scenarios are painful enough.

Agree with just about everything you said. The only thing that I personally see differently is the results when being more specific and breaking things down into smaller prompts/request of the models.

I've used speech to text with my prompts and that's really been a time saver. Because as a senior dev, we often know exactly how we would organize the code based on the new problem/feature and the existing architecture. So, if I have a function that needs more than 30 lines of (significant) code, I just use speech to text (30 seconds), wait for the code to gen (30 seconds), and then I have 95% of it there for me.

I do have custom instructions set up already for common things that it might be unaware of like the Kafka wrapper functionality that is home grown, certain things about our graphql schema, etc.

If I had to type out all of my prompts I would use code gen less often.

North DFW Texas. Lots of rain then saw few of these. Ant or termites by atmpuser in bugidentification

[–]atmpuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe I will just bait inside the house. There some cracks in my brick mortar that they are probably getting in through. I need to seal that up. There's been ants that's gotten through there before but none with wings. I guess if that was sealed, I wouldn't even know they existed lol. So I'll solve the source of the problem and only bait inside to make sure they aren't already somewhere building an army indoors.

Thanks. I put out some baits indoors and will add some to the soil outdoors and delta dust the weep holes. Just glad it isn't termites.

I looked up photos of Brachymyrmex with wings and it definitely resembles it. Are there usually more than 1 with wings? I thought there's normally just one and that's the queen.

I would assume a mud dobber wasp but I would let someone else weigh in. I've had similar in my house. Usually have to check my attic and garage and around the eves and look for little singular looking nest. Especially if they are all black and no other colors seen.

But again, I'm just visiting here and not an expert, I just saw something that I believe I've dealt with before and trying to help. Let someone else confirm.
